Sideshow’s Upcoming Silk Spectre II

WATCHMEN’s Silk Spectre II has already been rendered as a 6-inch figure by DC Direct, but the company has now joined on with Hot Toys to release a new 12-inch model using real fabric and an incredible likeness of the Zach Snyder film’s Malin Akerman.

This beautiful figure is fully articulated, brilliantly poseable and looked great when I saw it on display at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. I can promise that the picture here doesn’t do it any justice: the work they’ve done on the face is stunning. Be sure to check this one out if you’re a fan of the film–or just a fan of the comics who has not made any anti-materialist promises to Alan Moore. Shipping early this year, but can already be pre-ordered.

Original Fanworks: Check ’em out on Etsy!

If you’ve never checked out, now’s the time. Online shopping has been around since the first wave of internet popularity, but if you’re a fan of…well, pretty much anything, there’s a world of unique items available and usually made by fans for fans. Naturally, a wealth of original items can also be found on the page, so you should take a look at those while you’re snagging the best of the best fanworks. From Harley Quinn earrings to Spider-Man cross-stitches to the awesome Rorschach iPhone case above, it’s definitely a place worth exploring!

Comic-Con Pics (Part One)

Finally back from Comic Con and I’ve brought a ton of pics with me!  This year’s SDCC was absolute madness and a great introduction for a newbie like me. I’ve been to other Cons, but, naturally, San Diego’s is by far the largest and the most star-studded. With rumours of it moving to Vegas next year, I wonder what the future holds for the convention (And having just been to Vegas, I also wonder how those in hot costumes will manage in the Nevada sun), but for now here’s a look at some of the pictures of myself and others enjoying the awesomeness that is SDCC.

Watchmen Director’s Cut: Four Cities, One Week

Many will undoubtedly be disappointed to hear the news that the hotly anticipated Director’s Cut of Zack Snyder’s WATCHMEN film will not get the release that was planned before the film and will instead be seen only in four theatres for the week between July 17th and the 23rd. Definitely a shame for fans who wanted to see the news scenes from Alan Moore’s work played out on the big screen, but the movie’s numbers were too low to merit such an expenditure by the studio. Whether it was a matter of the high rating putting audiences off, the the complexity of Alan Moore’s ideas proving too daunting or the die-hard fan boycotting the major changes we can’t be sure. But what we do know is that if you’re looking to see it, you’ve gotta be at one of the following places:

Mann’s Chinese 6
6925 Hollywood Blvd.
Hollywood, CA 90028

Carmike Apple Valley 15
15630 Cedar Ave.
Apple Valley, MN 55124
Buy tickets:

Landmark Sunshine 5
New York
143 E. Houston St.
New York, NY 10002

Rave Hickory Creek 16
Dallas (Friday, July 17 through Monday, July 20 only)
8380 S. Stemmons
Hickory Creek, TX 76205

And if you can’t make it down to any of those theatres, some consolation might come in the form of more tangible Watchmen awesomeness: action figures! We’ve got the Minutemen and the Crimebusters, 6 inch figures and 12. Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, Silk Spectres I & II, the Comedian and more! Check it out by clicking the pic below!

Saturday, May 2nd: Free Comic Book Day! Plus, new comic figure pre-orders!

Don’t forget!

This Saturday, May 2nd, is Free Comic Book Day! An international event celebrated by most major comic book retailers where you can pick up a number of free comic books from indie publishers, as well as from the Big Boys like Marvel, DC and Dark Horse. All told, there are about 2 ooo ooo publications being given away, so get thee to a comic shop this weekend and enjoy! Just watch out for lineups: the crowds are going to be huge!

* * *

Meanwhile, over at our online store, we’ve got a ton of comic-related action figures. And it would take a while to list ’em all, of course, but here are a couple of the upcoming items we’re getting ready to add to our shelves. You can already order all of them for pre-order, of course, but they don’t ship just yet! To get a look at what else we’ve got in store for the future, you can always take a look at our pre-order page here.

The Marvel Legends Universe figures make up a very successful line and this latest series includes some hotly-anticipated new additions: Ultimate Captain America, Green Hulk, Grey Hulk, Green Goblin, Ronin and Iron Fist. This batch ships in May.

Kenzei Hiro, Peter, Nathan, Elle and the Haitian make up the latest series of figures from NBC’s Heroes. They’re from Mezco so you can expect some pretty decent articulation with the detail. Shipping in May!

Wheter or not Alan Moore likes it, his creations are getting a ton of merch (including that from Watchmen) and the latest is this new 13-inch figure of V, from the graphic-novel-turned-film, V for Vendetta.

Counting Down: WATCHMEN figures, Series 1!

Some fans can’t wait, others dread the inevitable changes to their comic bible, and a great many more will be introduced to the characters and the events in Alan Moore’s WATCHMEN for the first time on March 6th. The movie stars Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl II, Malin Ackerman as Silk Spectre II, Jackie Earle-Haley as fan-favourite Rorschach, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Comedian and more equally spot-on casting choices complete the ensemble.

Naturally, with something like this coming up, DC Direct has been working on a line of merch suitable to the tastes and high expectations of WATCHMEN fans everywhere. They’ve got busts and statues, 13 inch figures and 6 inch figures, all of which look great (though I personally prefer the detail on the smaller ones). Check ’em out!

And now a word from The New Frontiersman…

Watchmen Movie Trailer

Watchmen Movie PosterFor those of you who do not know The Watchmen series it was written by Alan Moore who also wrote the cult classic “V for Vendetta” and “From Hell“. I remember reading the original comic books as they were being released by DC Comics and I could hardly wait for each month’s release. Now you can buy the Graphic Novel (Watchmen TPB) and read it all in one sitting.

Short Synopsis from IMDb:

Watchmen” is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity… but who is watching the Watchmen?
