The ongoing court battle between Asus and Hasbro might be a little surreal at times, but Hasbro, which holds trademarks on the term “transformer,” got some bad news today. A US district court judge has ruled that Hasbro could not stop Asus from making and selling an Android tablet called the Transformer Prime as the case continues winding its way to trial.
Asus released its first Transformer tablet in the spring of 2011, but it was not until the company put out the follow up Transformer Prime, that Hasbro went all decepticon. Hasbro began airing an animated series in late 2010 called, you guessed it, Transformers Prime. The toy maker claimed in court that consumers would be confused, thinking that the Asus tablet was part of the Hasbro line of products. That might not be as completely outlandish as it sounds on the face of it; Hasbro has, in the past, allowed its Transformers logo to appear on mice, USB drives, and other electronic products.
The judge was unwilling to grant Hasbro the preliminary injunction that would have stopped Asus from selling the device until the case was settled. In the decision, the judge used several justifications including the accuracy of the name. The Asus Transformer products “transform” into laptops with the aid of a keyboard dock. Additionally, Hasbro may have simply waited too long to act, thus weakening its claim of ongoing harm to its brand.
Hasbro played up the positives in the case thus far, pointing out that the judge did acknowledge the strength of the Transformers trademark in general. One last bit of juicy data from the courtroom, Asus revealed in filings that it has only moved around 80,000 Transformer Prime tablets since the device was released in January.
Yes…we know Megan Fox is super hot. From the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie, this detailed pair includes a Mikaela Action Figure and a Sideswipe robot-to-vehicle Transformer. I hear Mikaela interacts with Bumblebee (but I’m not totally sure…hopefully someone can confirm this in the comment box below). The Mikaela figure rides on the robot’s arm or shoulder in robot mode, and inside the car in vehicle mode. This is a great item for the collector and the kid who wants a toy with more moving points and a lot of detail! Measures about 7 1/2-inches long in vehicle mode and the Mikaela figure is about 3 inches.
Customer Review: Sideswipe has rotating blades and a mounted shoulder cannon for Mikaela to ride on when in robot mode. The shadow black color with a lining of silver is a sweet color change. The detail on Sideswipe is oustanding as it is with all of the Human Alliance line of figures. The durability is awesome as well is the poseability. The transformation is advanced so if you have plenty of experience with transformers it is not that difficult. If you are a parent buying for a child 5-6 you will probably need to help them out some. Overall Sideswipe is a high quality,well-made figure.I highly recommend Sideswipe/Mikaela to all transformer fans out there. Transformers Rule!!!!!!!!!!!
Unlike most masters of bladed weapons, AXOR could care less about form. He is a whirlwind of destruction, caring only about seeing his enemies in pieces – as long as those pieces are still large enough to claim a bounty on. He especially looks forward to claiming the bounty on AUTOBOT RATCHET – and taking the healer’s weapon for himself. Turn the tables on enemy forces when you throw this warrior into the fight! Your AXOR figure is dedicated to destroying any opponent and robot arm that converts to an “axe” will help you two get the job done. If robot combat turns into a car chase, convert your hero into hunter car vehicle mode and send him racing off to rule the “road”!
I was playing this cheesy Transformers online video game with my nephew the other day….it was pretty awful. Here is a video game clip from youtube:
The movie Transformers 2 The Revenge of the Fallen was released at theaters on July 2nd and it’s still going strong. As part of the advertising you will be sure to see all kinds of Transformers merchandise at stores including action figures. Nothing beats the original line of Transformers toys but I get kids at the store asking me what is my favorite one….
It’s clearly Grimlock. Love ’em to death….who doesn’t love a Robot that can transform to a Dinosaur! It’s gotta be cool when Grimlock converts to a T-Rex. Most of the kids who don’t know much about Transformers then ask me where did he appear in the second movie….Never. Hopefully, he will be appearing in the third installment.
Based on the recent TF 2 movie, I would have to say that “Mixmaster” is a pretty cool Transformers. From cement truck to a Decepticon bad-ass Dude, I kind of like this toy.
At 8 inches, the Voyager Class represents the mid-range figures from Hasbro’s Transformers 2 movie toys collection. And Revenge of the Fallen brings with it a whole new line of characters, leading off with an epic new figure: The Fallen. One of only 13 original Transformers, the Fallen is the ultimate nemesis of Autobot leader Optimus Prime. He is the newest of the Transformers 2 Figures and provides an strange ally to those such as Demolishor, Starscream and Megatron, but a worthy for for Prime’s team.
