Smell like an AVENGER

From Comics Alliance comes a preview of these amazing AVENGERS perfumes. I’ve been looking forward to the film and have often thought that I wanted to be one of the Superheroes, but until now hadn’t figured out a way to smell like one. Now, given what they spend most of their time doing, I’d imagine they mostly smell like sweat, but let’s pretend.

Of course, I’m still waiting for a Black Widow perfume, but I won’t hold my breath.

And meanwhile, there’s actually more news from the Marvel Universe.
From The HD Room, here’s some info about what we might be able to see in the upcoming Avengers flick.

Ms. Marvel Joins Rumored The Avengers Movie Characters

Is Ms. Marvel going to appear in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers movie? How about the S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier? The answer to both could be “yes” depending on how quotes from an insider are interpreted.

Director Joshua Wexler showed up at Saturday’s preview for his new 3D CGI animated film that is part of Madame Tussauds London Marvel 4D experience. Shadowlocked was on hand to ask the director about the film and grab some Avengers tidbits the same time.

Ms. Marvel

Frank Cho's Ms. Marvel #1 Cover

“We worked with Marvel and did a lot of work here [in London] and in LA.,” Wexler said. “We had literally hundreds of people working on the development and the animation of the film solidly for the past six months. Certain things like the S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier were made more modern than in the comics in order to fit in with designs they are working on for the Avengers movie.”

The S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier is a ginormous flying aircraft carrier. Can you imagine Iron Man taking off from that in a live-action film?

Sensing Wexler was open to discussing The Avengers, Shadowlocked asked the director pointblank if Ms. Marvel would appear in the live-action film. He responsed with an “unmistakably knowing ‘Maybe…'”

I do not profess to be fluent in the rich Marvel universe so off to Wikipedia I went for some Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel education. Turns out Ms. Marvel was born after a fusion of alien Kree and human genes. Kree.. the same alien species referenced a few weeks ago as potentially appearing in The Avengers movies as enemies of the invading Skrulls. It could be that Carol Danvers is introduced in The Avengers and goes through the fusion process to become Ms. Marvel in the final act.

If there’s to be an invasion from space that The Avengers need to take care of, what better way to patrol our skies than with the S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier. Or a S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier with Carol Danvers aboard it.

Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye and now Ms. Marvel. The more Avengers rumors that surface make it more likely that Iron Man, Thor and Captain America will have a lot of help come 2012.

I’m definitely excited about this one. It should be very interesting to see if they can pull off such a superhero-filled picture!

BLACK WIDOW: The Figures

With the release of the first images of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in the upcoming Iron Man 2, it might be time to take a look at the figures of Black Widow’s previous incarnations…

Marvel Gold Black Widow

This Marvel Gold Black Widow features an older version of her signature catsuit, plain and yet nevertheless appealing on her curves. With a short cut and (now) retro leather jacket, this Toy Biz figure is definitely one for collectors. Or just those looking for a little bit of animated nostalgia from the 90s.

Marvel Legends Black Widow

A more modern take on Black Widow, this Marvel Legends figure has her in the Daredevil Universe. With the long red locks and golden accents, this is the outfit that usually comes to mind when Black Widow is brought up. Like any good spy, she’s also available with an alternate look in this blonde variant.

Marvel Select Black Widow

Another blonde Black Widow, this Marvel select figure features a PVC costume that clings and features an exposed midsection not usually seen on spies (let’s hope no one decides to shoot at her), but that definitely gets her more fans.

IRON MAN 2: Images + New Iron Man Figure!

Entertainment Weekly’s second annual Comic-Con preview issue features Iron Man 2 on the cover, and inside it’s packed with exclusive first looks at highly anticipated TV shows, comic books, and movies.

The first Iron Man blasted Robert Downey Jr. back to stardom, and the superhero franchise is readying to return to the big screen on May 7, 2010. Iron Man will battle new villain Mickey Rourke, size up Scarlett Johansson (exclusive photo of ScarJo as Black Widow, after the jump!), and, hopefully, prove that the success of the first movie wasn’t a fluke. Downey knows the movie isn’t an underdog this time around. “There are a lot more invisible eyes on us now,” he says.

When Marvel Studios first announced the sequel, no one was sure what the movie would be about. Downey, director Jon Favreau, screenwriter Justin Theroux, and the rest of the creative team struck upon the idea of introducing two very different foes for Stark. On one side is Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), a fast-talking weapons manufacturer who fancies himself the next Tony Stark; on the other, Vanko, who, while incarcerated in a Russian prison, creates his own battle-suit, which shoots devastating, whip-like beams. Hammer and Whiplash join forces to take down Downey’s character, Tony Stark. Rourke, for his part, wanted to instill some lightness into the role of the heavy. “I told Favreau, ‘I don’t want to just play him as a one-dimensional p—-,'” he says. “He let me have a cockatoo, who I talk to and get drunk with while I’m making my suit.”

Just as the deals were being hammered out, Terrence Howard — who had played Stark’s best friend — fell out of the sequel in a public salary dispute. The role was re-cast, with Don Cheadle stepping in. “We had to make some tough deals,” says Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. “When they got public, you go, ‘That sucks. Okay, you want a peek behind the curtain? Here you are!'” Says Cheadle, “Terrence and I couldn’t be more different. We address it head-on in the movie in one exchange. We’re not trying to fool people.” (Cheadle admits he didn’t know much about Marvel’s superhero before the first movie came out: “I always thought Iron Man was a robot.”)

Adding more flesh and blood to the new movie, Scarlett Johansson joined the cast as Stark’s mysterious new assistant, Natasha, who has an alter ego of her own, Black Widow. That introduction inevitably sparks romantic tension between Stark and former assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), who’s been promoted to CEO of Stark Industries. “The men want it to be, like, ‘Ooh, the girls are fighting over Tony,’ but it’s not as standard as that,” says Paltrow. “There’s a weird male catfight fantasy. Downey agrees. He believes what differentiates the franchise from other superhero series can be summarized as follows: “We’re horny. Not, like, can’t-bring-your-kids horny, but just…horny.”

The question remains whether Iron Man 2 will soar like the first film or show signs of rust when it hits theaters. “People are going to be more critical,” says Downey. “That’s their prerogative….In a way, there’s no way to win, except to win. Big.”
