Baby, I can see your Halo: New series of five-inch figures from McFarlane

Since 2001, the Halo series has titillated the gaming community, and with good reason! A total of 13 releases for a range of systems up until 2017 is quite the accomplishment for a first-person shooter conglomerate. So let’s celebrate the awesomeness (and the upcoming 2016 game) with the Halo 5: Guardians Master Chief, part of the first series of five-inch figures based on the Microsoft creation.

McFarlane has fashioned these new figures in realistic detail, just as they will appear on your screen next year. Apart from the Chief, you can choose from Spartan LockeSpartan Athlon, Spartan Tanaka, Spartan Fred and Spartan Kelly.

Baby, I can see your Halo.

Fifth time’s the charm.

Coming in September… Halo Minimates and REACH

This September, we tart shipping out a series 1 box set of Diamond Select’s Halo Mini-Mates figures! A group of four 2.5-inch figures (with 14 points of articulation!!) based on the hugely popular video game, the Mini-Mates feature video game-accurate armour and accessories while still being anthing BUT game-accurate in terms of form! Master Chief, a UNSC Marine, a Spartan in White Scout Armour, and an Elite in cobalt Assault Armour make up this first series, but given the “collectibility” of something like this, I’m pretty sure you can expect this PX Exclusive to be the beginning of something big–and small.

We’ve also got some brand new stuff coming in from Halo Reach! These items start shipping in September, but you can already take a look at what’ll be out there with individual action figures, 2-packs and vehicles! Click the pic below to check ’em out!

And if you’re still salivating over REACH, we’re pleased to see has a look at the latest live-action game trailer, but not a lot of good to say about it:

The Halo universe is famous for explosions and the colour purple. But pregnant British women? Never seen one of them in a Halo game before.

This is yet another live-action trailer for Halo: Reach, showing the lives of some of the citizens of Reach the day before the Covenant invasion.

They’re OK, but Microsoft, the more of these you put out, the worse they’re getting, and the less impact they’re having. The pointiest tip of the Halo fanbase may get off on seeing bickering civilians, but the majority of customers are in this for the explosions.

Gears of War: Film Confirmed + A New Figure!

Good news for Gears of War fans! From the UK’s Electronic Theatre comes an article on the confirmation of a film version of the hugely successful video game property:

Long rumoured as in production, Microsoft has today confirmed the existence of a Gears of War feature film, almost inadvertently. While announcing that Ice-T would lend his voice talents to the upcoming Gears of War 3, the publisher issued an official statement confirming the existence of a movie based upon the franchise.

While there have been many rumours, with the reported screenwriter openly acknowledging the existence of a movie adaptation of the Gears of War franchise, no official confirmation that a film had been green lit has ever been received from Microsoft, Epic Games or any other party involved with the production. Today however, that all changed.

The press release issued earlier today revealing the vocal talents of Ice-T as Griffin, a new character in Gears of War 3, also offered the first official acknowledgement that a motion-picture based upon the franchise is currently underway.

“The “Gears of War” series is one of the most popular franchises in Xbox history, having sold more than 12 million copies worldwide, and spawning New York Times best-selling novels, an upcoming film and more,” read the press release, proud of the achievements of Epic Games’ popular videogame series.

And if that isn’t enough good news, the San Diego Comic Con figure of Gears of War 3’s Jace has now been revealed and we’ve got it available for pre-order in case you can’t make it to the con. He stands about 6 inches and comes with game-faithful weapons. But most impressively, I think, is the sculpting, which is a startlingly realistic look, but still manages to capture the style of the game. Really great.

He joing a bunch of other Gears of War figures, from 6-inch figures to Batsus to a ton of multi-packs and exclusives. Check ’em out!

Mass Effect Toys: Shipping this Fall!

An incredible, sweeping sci-fi epic, Mass Effect (and perhaps some of the mild controversy it caused with a few select scenes) and its sequel have garnered legions of fans. And what happens when you get enough gamers passionate about a franchise?

DC Direct makes action figures of it! And everybody wins.

The first series of 6-inch figures has only been seen in photos like the one above, which showcases the prototypes of the first four figures: Thane, Tali, Shepard and Grunt. If the images there are any indication, this is going to be a very nice-looking and detailed line. I really am impressed with the way that DC Direct has stepped up and gone beyond its own cast of characters to acquire the licenses for a ton of other awesome lines. They’re beginning to broaden their own definition and it’s great, leaving their own mark rather than following Marvel and signing with manufacturers who too often cut and run.

In any event, back to Mass Effect 2 toys: Super-fans can actually pre-order now, though the figures themselves will only be shipping in August of this year. In the meantime, the uninitiated can check out the game over at!

NECA’s Stylized Marcus Fenix

I still remember the amazing commercial for Gears of War, which was a trailer-style ad that showcased the dark, powerful imagery of the game to the sound of Gary Jules’ haunting cover of ‘Mad World’. If you don’t remember it, take a look right here…

Since that aired, the game has spawned a sequel and is soon to become a trilogy as massively successful as the acclaimed Halo. And with it has come a ton of figures and collectibles that capture the feeling of the game, plus the amazing detail of the armor, weapons and characters themselves. Fans have been spoiled!

But like Star Trek’s Quogs or Halo’s Odd Pods, Gears of War’s collection of figures have been popular enough to allow for more creative designs to be added to the line and that’s what’s brought us this stylized Marcus Fenix from NECA. It’s a great new look for the game’s protagonist and there’s no doubt this one will be popular with fans. You can snag it at! Just click here or on the picture below to check out the whole collection of toys!
