Video Games: Figures and Awful Voice Acting

As many are saying nowadays and as I have said in a recent post, Video Games are becoming more and more cinematic. The scale is epic, with massive new worlds being created as stages for brilliant stories, sweeping tales that truly immerse the player. More and more video games are being made into movies (such as Brad Pitt’s recent purchase of Dark Void) for a mainstream audience who might want to get in on the tales without devoting hours to playing. And manufacturers are beginning to see that, beyond the games themselves, there’s a huge market for merchandise, from soundtracks to figures. And in the latter category, we can help fans out by offering a wide selection of toys from Bioshock to Super Mario, Street fighter to Call of Duty, Super Metroid to Halo and much, much more. Check it out!

But of course, there’s another side to that coin. Though video games are definitely improving in quality and becoming closer and closer to films, there’s still one area in which many are…shall we say…lacking: acting. Now, don’t get me wrong: there are a ton of really talented voice actors out there and they deserve all the work they get, if not more. But this youtube video captures a lot of moments where things just didn’t come together. Enjoy!

NECA’s Stylized Marcus Fenix

I still remember the amazing commercial for Gears of War, which was a trailer-style ad that showcased the dark, powerful imagery of the game to the sound of Gary Jules’ haunting cover of ‘Mad World’. If you don’t remember it, take a look right here…

Since that aired, the game has spawned a sequel and is soon to become a trilogy as massively successful as the acclaimed Halo. And with it has come a ton of figures and collectibles that capture the feeling of the game, plus the amazing detail of the armor, weapons and characters themselves. Fans have been spoiled!

But like Star Trek’s Quogs or Halo’s Odd Pods, Gears of War’s collection of figures have been popular enough to allow for more creative designs to be added to the line and that’s what’s brought us this stylized Marcus Fenix from NECA. It’s a great new look for the game’s protagonist and there’s no doubt this one will be popular with fans. You can snag it at CmdStore.com! Just click here or on the picture below to check out the whole collection of toys!

You can also check grab the game itself over at Amazon.com!

It’s going to be awesome!

The PS2 Price Drop and Video Game Figures

Maybe it’s the recession, maybe it’s market saturation or maybe it’s time to draw in the casual gamers, but Sony has lowered the price of its 2000 system, the Playstation 2, to $99.99 USD, with similar drops reflected internationally.

While the most gamers have long moved on to the PS3, the XBox 360 and the Wii (for more casual play), this move is sure to bring some new more experimental video game fans to the older PS2 system, which may have aged but still boasts a library of over 1900 games. So if you’re a casual gan, there’s never been a better time to dive right in and for the more hard-core crowd, look out for new competitors: the PS2 drop is almost sure to increase sales of the PS3 once the uninitiated get started.

In other video game news, we’ve recently listed some new video game figures over at our online store, both for ordering and for pre-order! We already covered the Resident Evil 5 figures in a previous post, sere are a couple samples of what elsewe’ve acquired!

We’ve got the Nathan Hale, Steelhead, Ravager and Chimera Advanced Hybrid figures available for pre-order now, based on the Playstation 3 game, Resistance: Fall of Man. These guys only ship at the end of the summer (scheduled to roll out in September), but if you’re a fan, you can make sure you get yours right on time by snagging them in advance.

The third and latest series of Gears of War action figures has arrived, including a COG Solider, a Locust Drone Cyclops, a Locust Drone Grappler and the hero Marcus Fenix. NECA has outdone themselves once again in terms of detail and painting and fans of the game will not be disappointed.

HALO 5-INCH SERIES 4: Equipment Edition

This new collection of toys includes Master Chief in yet another McFarlane incarnation, two Spartan Soldiers, a Combat Elite and an Arbiter, adding to the already massive Halo collection. This series, however, is unique for its inclusion of extra equipment, making for a more game-accurate figure for anyone who’s loved the games and the toys.
