The new Aquaman vs. Black Manta 2-pack is another classic DC Universe rivalry captured for the company’s 2-pck collection. The sea’s greatest defender faces off against his greatest enemy and the pair are rendered brilliantly as 6-inch figures bearing their signature weapons and clad in their classic costumes. Any fan of the Justice League, Aquaman, Black Manta or, really, just some well-made figures, should definitely check this one out. It’s a great new addition and it’s nice to see these versions of what are, really, two frequently underused characters.
But that’s not the only new 2-pack worthy of note! No, far from it. Because we’ve got a great pair that brings together two supervillains from different worlds, facing off in what might be the most epic battle to span the universes! Ready? Because here it is!
An exclusive 2-pack sees Skeletor and Lex Luthor, together at last as 6-inch figures. Packaged with a full-length comic, this is a chance to join fandoms in a way that we’re all too thrilled to see! Check it out!
Following the announcement of Blizzard Entertainment’s Special Edition World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, here’s a look at what DC Direct has in-store for fans of the game looking for something awesome to add to their toy-shelves.
HUMAN PALADIN JUDGE MALTHRED
ORC ROGUE GARONA
WORGEN SPY GARM WHITEFANG
SET OF ALL 3 FIGURES
The figures range between 7 and 9 inches and look absolutely stunning, based on the high-detail concept art that World of Warcraft. The armour, the weapons and all the accessories look just as good as the characters’ faces, be they bare skin or covered in dense fur. I have to say that, even as a non-WOW-er, I can’t help but be impressed by the look of these figures–I’ve even considered picking up a few just for the styling of them. As fantasy figures, they really are a cut above. These guys will be shipping in November and join a huge collection of World of Warcraft toys already in stock!
This September, we tart shipping out a series 1 box set of Diamond Select’s Halo Mini-Mates figures! A group of four 2.5-inch figures (with 14 points of articulation!!) based on the hugely popular video game, the Mini-Mates feature video game-accurate armour and accessories while still being anthing BUT game-accurate in terms of form! Master Chief, a UNSC Marine, a Spartan in White Scout Armour, and an Elite in cobalt Assault Armour make up this first series, but given the “collectibility” of something like this, I’m pretty sure you can expect this PX Exclusive to be the beginning of something big–and small.
We’ve also got some brand new stuff coming in from Halo Reach! These items start shipping in September, but you can already take a look at what’ll be out there with individual action figures, 2-packs and vehicles! Click the pic below to check ’em out!
And if you’re still salivating over REACH, we’re pleased to see thatKotaku.com has a look at the latest live-action game trailer, but not a lot of good to say about it:
The Halo universe is famous for explosions and the colour purple. But pregnant British women? Never seen one of them in a Halo game before.
This is yet another live-action trailer for Halo: Reach, showing the lives of some of the citizens of Reach the day before the Covenant invasion.
They’re OK, but Microsoft, the more of these you put out, the worse they’re getting, and the less impact they’re having. The pointiest tip of the Halo fanbase may get off on seeing bickering civilians, but the majority of customers are in this for the explosions.
Watch it here!
Well, I’ve just gotten back from San Diego and I’m very pleased to say that it was an absolute blast, if a little lighter on actual comic content than I’m used to. Really, though, I suppose it’s just the way of things that TV and movies seem to have officially taken precedence over the comic book stuff and at least it’s bringing people into the show where they’ll discover the stuff they might have missed out on! Plus, with movies like Red and shows like The Walking Dead, it’s further proof that there’s a symbiotic relationship between the media forms and that is definitely a good thing.
But without further ado, I’ll get to the meat of this post, THE PICTURES! Take a look at some of the cool items, set pieces and costumes from the biggest con in the world!
And if you want a little more, be sure to check out our previous post on SDCC EXCLUSIVES!
We’ve still got some of our exclusive First-Appearance Sabretooth figures left. From the Marvel Select collection, these figures stand about 7 or 8 inches tall and feature amazing sculpting and a great paint job reflecting Sabretooth’s original look from his first appearance in a 1977 issue of Iron Fist (as “Sabre-Tooth”).
We brought him to Fan Expo, but if you weren’t able to make it, you can order him here or by clicking his pic above. This one’s a great find for collectors and you can only get it from us!
Meanwhile, we’ve juuuuuust uploaded our FanExpo pics, so here’s a look at how we spent our weekend!
I was fortunate enough to attend this year’s San Diego Comic Con and I excitedly picked up a couple of Con exclusives to add to my toy collection. But even attendees can’t be everywhere at once and the exclusives tend to vanish from the booths pretty quickly. Fortunately, though, I’m not in charge of CmdStore’s acquisitions and thus my inability to snag all the exclusive items hasn’t stopped us from boasting an awesome selection of SDCC 09 goodies that you can check out right here.
Some examples of the items we’ve got in-stock include the above Han and Luke Stormtrooper 2-pack, Crimson Cobra Commander, Metal Sonic the Hedgehog, Pesty and Creo Little Apple Dolls, Green Lantern Blackest Night and Origins figures, Egon Spengler and Slimer, 12-inch Baroness, the Destro 2-pack and more!
Fans of the Doctor Who action figures will be pleased to hear that the show’s spin-off, Torchwood, will soon be getting its own line of figures from Character Options Toys. They’ll be previewed at the San Diego Comic Con and we’ll let you know when they’re available elsewhere. For now, here’s a look and some more info from TV Over Mind:
Torchwood and Doctor Who fans have a lot to be excited about regarding next week’s Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego – and it just got even better for collectors. Underground Toys has just released images of their four exclusive new action figures, which will be available firstly at Comic-Con and then only at select online retailers following the event. If you’re an action figure collector like myself, you won’t want to miss these great new additions.
The first two selections are part of Character Options’ classic figure series. The first is the First Doctor (William Hartnell) with a Dalek Invasion of Earth ‘Black’ Dalek two-pack, harkening back to Doctor Who’s first broadcast in November 1963. Both color and black and white editions will be available, keeping in the spirit of the original black-and-white television broadcast. The second is the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton), featured here with a Cybermen two-pack representing those found in the September 1967 episode ‘Tomb of the Cybermen’. This figure also has both color and black-and-white variants available. Both the First and Second Doctor exclusives have a SRP of $40.
Underground will also offer a Sixth Doctor variant figure, featuring Colin Baker’s incarnation in the alternative blue coat most visibly used in the BBC’s ‘Real Time’ webcast. This more muted, less frivolous design is a favorite among many fans, and this figure has an SRP of $20.
For Torchwood fans like myself, you’ll be thrilled to hear that a limited edition Captain Jack Harkness figure will also be offered at the convention. This figure, specially packaged for the upcoming Children of Earth miniseries, is a variant of the one released in the first wave of Torchwood figures. It features Jack in his dark blue alternative wardrobe, and is individually hand-numbered. This variant carries an SRP of $20.
All these figures will be available exclusively at the Underground Toys booth at Comic-Con (#3949), and later at select online retailers not yet known at press time.
