New York Comic Con 2011: Hasbro’s Exclusive Compound Hulk Figure

compound hulk figure loose
Hasbro’s Marvel Universe line expands at NYCC 2011–October 13-16 at the Javits Center–with the Marvel Universe Special Edition Compound Hulk figure. You can only get your hands on Compound Hulk, which was inspired by HULK #30 by Jeff Parker and Ed McGuinness at the NY Comic Con 2011.

What does HULK writer Jeff Parker think about seeing his and Ed’s creation turned into a toy? “This is not surprising at all considering how big Ed factored into that character–everything he thinks of makes a great toy,” Parker said. “It’s very cool, and they better send us each one and not make us share just because it’s two Hulks in one!”

“The first cool thing was seeing Jeff take a completely absurd idea and make it work on so many levels,” added McGuinness. “The second cool thing was seeing said absurd idea become a really great looking toy. I can’t believe I get paid to do this!”

What’s more powerful than Hulk and Red Hulk? The two Hulks combined into Compound Hulk! This 3 3/4″ Marvel Universe figure recreates a memorable moment from this year’s HULK #30, when the two hulking enemies were combined into one red-and-green behemoth! The figure is based on the artwork of superstar artist Ed McGuinness, and his artwork adorns the special edition blister card and outer packaging of this one-of-a-kind figure!

Ghostbusters SDCC Exlusive: Retro Peter Venkman

The SDCC Exclusive Peter Venkman is the newest addition to our Ghostbusters collection, but styled as though he’s the oldest.

Based on the MEGO figures of yesteryear, which are currently making a comeback, this is a great item for collectors seeking something a little off-the-beaten-path–especially if they missed out on the 2010 San Diego Comic Con! Standing about 8 inches tall, it’s part plastic and part plush but still comes with the classic proton pack and, as a modern touch, speaks when you press the button on his chest! In a voice accurate to The Real Ghostbusters, he speaks four lines from Episode 11 of the classic cartoon, “Citizen Ghost”.

We’ve recently gotten a few new Ghostbusters figures in stock, plus a bunch set up for pre-orders! They can all be seen in our GHOSTBUSTERS section

From Slimer to Venkman, the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man to Walter Peck, we’ve got a ton of the 6-inch figures, collectible statues and banks that fans of the film franchise will be absolutely sure to love. They’ll be extra helpful in bridging the gap between now and the arrival of the inevitable-yet-endlessly-far-away Ghostbusters III, slated for 2012.

But one of the most anticipated items and probably one of the awesomest is for those who don’t just want to collect toys of the Ghostbusters, but play one themselves. Check it out!

The Mattel Replica PKE Meter is a hand-held ghost-seeker you can use to find all the phantoms lurking around your own home. With extending ‘wings’, flashing lights and movie-accurate sounds, it’ll make you feel like you just joined the group! This pre-order ships in January 2011, eons before the film hits theatres. 😉

For a preview, here’s a video of the Meter in action!

STARRO THE CONQUEROR is the main attraction in this brand new figure set featuring the super-villain facing off against Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, the Flash and Martian Manhunter. It’s a San Diego Comic Con exclusive from this year’s show and has just arrived on our shelves! If you’re a fan of the classic covers, then this is definitely one for you: it brilliantly recreates The Brave and the Bold Issue #28 and the epic battle waged on the front page.

But best of all–and I mean this–is the packaging. Normally, I’m all about the contents, but this is probably the coolest box I’ve ever encountered on any toy or collectible. Why?

Because it talks. Seriously. With the voice of Kevin Conroy (Batman in Batman the Animated Series, Gotham Knight, JLA, the Arkham Asylum video game, etc.), the box narrates exactly what’s going down on the cover/in the showcase. Really.

In fact, here’s a review of the figure that gives you a look at just how awesome that is.

Each of the little figures stands about 3.75 inches tall, making them proportional to DC’s Infinite Heroes collection. Starro himself stands about twice that high and is wired rubber for some excellent bending action worthy of the intergalactic starfish he is.

To snag him or any of the other awesome toys from 2010’s show, check out our San Diego Comic Con Exclusives section over at CmdStore! Just click the pic below!

NEW STAR TREK FIGURE: Chief Petty Officer O’Brien

Every so often I think to myself “Hey, whatever happened to Colm Meaney?” and, usually, the thought ends there. But when I took a look at our New Arrivals section over at Cmdstore, I was pleased to see that at least one of Mr. Meaney’s many roles has been once more immortalised as a New Force Exclusive!

The figure itself stands about 6-inches tall and joins on with the rest of the huge collection of Star Trek figures and collectibles we’ve got over at There are character figures, vehicle replicas, phasers, Tribbles and more! Definitely check them out if you’re a fan.

And as for Officer O’Brien, he comes with a tricorder and some other show-accurate accessories, making him an excellent addition to any ST collector’s toy or display shelf!
