A four-pack tailor-made for fans of the 80s cartoon THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS has just arrived! Diamond’s MINI-MATES recreate classic characters with a cute and cubic spin. It’s a market-exclusive item and includes all four Anti-Ghostbusters, the “spectral doppelgangers of the team that manifested in the wake of the Gozer incident”. Each one stands about 2.5 inches tall and features an impressive 14 points of articulation– pretty good for the teeny tiny size. The interchangeable parts and accessories make this one all the better as a collector’s item.
Though the game might not have been the financial success we might have hoped, critics responded to its stunning design and artistic elements, the strangeness of the characters and the inventive, dark beauty to be found in every corner of London and its counterpart, Wonderland.
Alice, a Card Guard and the Cheschire Cat can be purchased individually or as a complete set of three. You can also snag Hysteria Alice, an exclusive rendering of her terrifying berserker form, blood red and bone white.
All of these figures can be pre-ordered now and will be shipping out in JUNE!
Over in our Star Wars section, we’ve got a trio of brand new character banks that are sure to dress up any superfan’s desk. Each one is about 9 inches tall, looks just stunning thanks to some great attention to detail and wields an awesome weapon. Check ’em out below:
X-MEN’S GAMBIT is the latest Marvel character to be given the Diamond Marvel Select treatment, which, as usual, means a classic look given new life with brilliant sculpting, a background for display and the accurate accessories you’d expect–nay–demand from a deluxe 8-inch figure. Take a look!
Sculpted by the incredibly talented Jean St. Jean, he features not only accessories but multiple hands that allow for dynamic posing. Plus, the Danger Room backdrop allows him to be combined with Cyclops to form a diorama ideal for display. He joins the likes of Deadpool, Magneto, Sabretooth, Wolverine and more in the Marvel Select collection. Check him out!
And there’s more good news for X-Men fans, actually, with the upcoming Wolverine 2 starting to get people–including its star–talking! AndPop.com has the news…
X Men Origins: Wolverine 2, is in the works and Hugh Jackman is raving about it. [Jackman] has seen the script and said it’s going to be a lot darker than the previous film.
The film is a sequel to Wolverine, which is a prequel to the X-Men trilogy. Chris McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, has written the script for the new film and Darren Aronofsky, (Requiem for a Dream) is set to direct. That already seems like a winning team.
With Aronofsky directing, the film is sure to be a lot darker and more obscure. However, Aronofsky does seem like an odd choice to direct the film. He usually stays within the boundaries of artistic dramas and psychological thrillers, Wolverine is definitely new ground for the director to cover. Additionally, Aronofsky’s new film, Black Swan, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, was praised by nearly all critics. The success of Black Swan will only bring good publicity to Aronofsky and his future films.
It will be interesting to see a more artful take on a superhero franchise. Christopher Nolan attempts to do the same with Batman, but the films lack intriguing dialogue and are drowned with action. Perhaps, Aronofsky and McQuarrie can bend the lines of the superhero genre with Wolverine 2. We’ll just have to wait and see…
The film is set to begin production next year.
There’s a brand new Marvel Select pre-order headed your way and here’s your first look!
Magneto (with helmet) is the latest addition to Marvel’s premiere figure line, Marvel Select, a collection that brings out the best in Marvel’s heroes and villains via high-quality individual figures.
Sculpted by Gabriel Marquez, this figure captures Magneto standing tall and proud above the ruins of the Xavier Institute (and the body of a fallen enemy!), looking as smug as you might expect from one of Marvel’s greatest supervillains ever. With ambitions to eradicate the entire human race in favour of the highly-evolved mutants, though, it’s unlikely Magneto intends to spend much time resting on his laurels, so this victorious pose won’t last long!
The Marvel Select Collection has become synonymous with high-quality, brilliantly-sculpted figures that bring out the best in a variety of characters from the Marvel Universe, both well- and lesser-known. Over the past few years, we’ve seen heroes and villains, wide-release figures and exclusives and a number of different styles from modern to some first-appearance items and it’s added up to form a pretty sizable catalogue. Which only makes sense when you know that’s heading our way next, the BEST OF series. A three figure series you can grab as individual items or in a set, this line collects three of Marvel Select’s most successful toys. They will be shipping next year, but you can already snag ’em over at CmdStore’s Marvel Select section. And here they are:
