Montreal to host Mini Comiccon in December

To mark the halfway point after one Montreal Comiccon and the next one, the wonderful folks who the yearly toy and fan spectacle put together the Mini Comiccon for one day during the winter. The Montreal con in particular is known for uniquely bridging the gap between the American pop-culture market and the European bande dessinée art form. Now fans have more opportunities to cosplay, purchase the comic-related stuff on their holiday lists and mingle with like-minded people!

The 2014 Mini Comiccon will be held at Montreal’s Palais de congrès on December 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for adults is $5, or free for children 12 and under. It’ll be well worth the deal to see the special guests, which will include Canadian cosplayer and glamour model Marie-Claude Bourbonnais and American comic book artist Ethan Van Sciver, known for his work on titles like Green Lantern and The Flash: Rebirth.

IGN has some really great news for Justice League fans! Have a read:

The first DC Universe Animated Original Movie of 2012, Justice League: Doom, will bring back Nathan Fillion and Tim Daly as the voice of Green Lantern and Superman respectively, Warner Home Video has announced. The film will also feature a reunion of the voice actors from the animated TV series Justice League Unlimited, including veteran Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy once again taking on the Dark Knight, Michael Rosenbaum as Flash, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman and Carl Lumbly as J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter. Bumper Robinson joins the cast as Cyborg.

According to the official description, Justice League: Doom finds the heroes on their heels when a team of super villains discover and implement the Dark Knight’s “contingency plans” for stopping any rogue Justice League member. The story is inspired by Mark Waid’s much-heralded JLA: Tower of Babel.

Fillion, a fan-favorite choice who lost out to Ryan Reynolds in last summer’s live-action Green Lantern movie, finally got to play the role of Hal Jordan in the recent DC Universe movie Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. It was actually his second time voicing a character from the DCU on home video; he also played Steve Trevor in the 2008 hit Wonder Woman.

Daly first provided the voice for Superman in the landmark cartoon, Superman: The Animated Series. He went on to play him twice more, in 2009’s Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and 2010’s Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

The all-star casting also extends to the villains in the film. Three alumni of the Justice League animated series will reprise their roles – Phil Morris (Smallville, Seinfeld) as Vandal Savage, Olivia d’Abo (The Wonder Years) as Star Sapphire and Alexis Denisof (Angel) as Mirror Master. Newly added villains include Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911) as Bane, Paul Blackthorne (The Dresden Files) as Metallo, and Claudia Black (Farscape, Stargate SG-1) as Cheetah. David Kaufman (Danny Phantom) also reprises his Justice League role of Jimmy Olsen.

The film is executive produced by Bruce Timm (Batman: Year One), and directed by Lauren Montgomery (Batman: Year One), who is also credited as producer alongside Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series). Justice League: Doom is the final script from the late Dwayne McDuffie (All-Star Superman, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths). Casting and dialogue direction is once again in the capable hands of Andrea Romano (Batman: Year One).

Warner Home Video will premiere the Justice League: Doom trailer during its presentation at New York Comic Con on Friday, Oct.14 in our own IGN Theater. Also premiering during that session will be the Catwoman animated short attached to Batman: Year One, the next DC Universe Animated Movie (due out on October 18).

Coming Soon: The Return of HardCore Nerdity!

The premiere social network for geeks, Hardcore Nerdity has been down for some time, needing to upgrade its servers to properly accommodate the teeming masses in desperate need of their nerd fix.

Well, finally, it seems to be on its way back! A site-wide e-mail and a pre-Fan-Expo message posted on their main page suggests that the long wait is nearly at an end and fans can expect the return of Jonathan Llyr’s magnum opus very, very soon!

What has it been like to live two full months without our beloved HcN? Well, we got to know our loved ones better, took our precious puppy out for a walk and rediscovered the glory that is “fresh air”. We went to family gatherings, played sports, maybe even went for a swim. We saw movies, we read books, we dusted off that unfinished model of the Millenium Falcon and now it’s slightly less unfinished.

But fear not, oh loyal HcNers, your living torment is close to an end.

For HcN is returning soon! How soon? Like . . . dude . . . really soon. But all great things are worth the wait, and we would be remiss in giving you a site that was only half its potential. So some final tweaks are being twacked, and nits are being picked.

“I don’t trust you!” you say. “You have deserted us. How can we believe a word you say??”

Believe it my friends, believe it. For here we have proof – a screen cap of the new and improved and snazzy HcN:

Adding to that we are still hard at work gathering super awesome content for the site, and will be present at FanExpo this weekend like every year so do seek us out!

In the immortal words of the great Douglas Adams: Don’t panic. And in the even more immortal words of the Governor of California: We’ll be back. And when we’re back, you’d better believe we’ll be driving that truck through the wall in style.

Thanks for visiting Stay tuned!
