Exclusive Super Grover blasts in from the past

This amalgamation of kid-friendly animation, sketch comedy and puppetry educated and entertained generations of kids since 1969. Were you one of them? The famed TV series has won more Grammys and Emmys than any other children’s show since the beginning of time. That’s quite the accomplishment, we think, and couple that with the fact that most of us spent many an hour in front of Sesame Street as kids, and we have more than one reason to snap up this nostalgic token.

Super Grover in 2005 exclusive format comes as a six-inch figure from Palisades. He’s pictured in his trademark beige trench coat and comes with a cape, helmet, suit and two interchangeable heads, true to his enigmatic persona of mild-mannered businesspuppet “Grover Ken” by day, world-saving Muppet hero by night. All of this wouldn’t be possible without an innocuous-looking telephone booth in which to make his transformation. With artwork specially done by Alex Ross on the outer packaging, this figure was only available at 2005 conventions and from the collectors’ club. We only have one, so if you’re in love already, grab it!

"Remember this, kids, it is very important. Even if your mommy makes you a super hero costume, do not attempt to do any of these things, especially flying. Because you cannot do it. You do not have super powers. Because there is only one Super Grover. And that is me."

DC Direct’s BATMAN : JUSTICE Figure by Alex Ross

Based on the epic 12-part Alex Ross miniseries, this new figure captures the artist’s signature style both in the design of the body and the detailed sculpting of the face. Take a look:

The 13-inch figure from DC Direct really does justice (no pun intended!) to the striking look of the dark knight and brings to fans a new way to capture the amazing art and indeed the vision of Alex Ross. Batman is packaged in a deluxe window box and the figure itself features an impressive 28 points of articulation. He is also a suitable companion to the Alex Ross-designed KINGDOM COME SUPERMAN

A new 13-inch Kingdom Come Superman figure has just been released by DC Direct and he looks incredible.

Part of DC Direct’s hugely-popular 1:6 scale collection, this figure is based on the work of artist Alex Ross, whose stunning, almost Rockwell-ian realism has become highly sought-after by Marvel, DC and a ton of other imprints and companies (non-comic-readers might even recognise his artwork from the opening credits of Spider-Man 2).

This figure in particular is based on the epic DC miniseries KINGDOM COME, wherein Superman is an older, wiser hero who stands alongside a world of heroes as their world is threatened by a force even the Man of Steel might not be able to defeat.

Packaged in a 4-colour window box, Superman features 28 points of articulation and makes an impressive, heroic addition to any collector’s toy shelf!

JUSTICE SOCIETY: Series 2 Arrives!

Cyclone, Hourman, Kingdom Come-style Superman and Stargirl make up the second series of figures from The Justice Society collection by DC Direct. All of them look sharp, standing about 6-inches tall and featuring some great paintwork. Each one is more than loyal to their comic book counterpart, so fans are sure to be pleased.

They can be snagged individually or in a 4-figure set. They join the likes of Sandman, Golden Age Flash and The Atom in what has been a very successful figure line for DC. Check ’em out!

And speaking of DC, have you heard the latest on the Dark Knight sequel (also known as “the third in the Nolan Batman trilogy”) or (the 8th or 9th Batman feature film). Crave Online’s Genevieve Blaber has the news:

Looks like 2012 is going to be a cinematic year to remember. Not only are MGM’s The Hobbit and Marvel Studios’ The Avengers set to hit theaters, but now another big franchise has entered the fray: Batman.

Today, after nearly two years of speculation and rumors, Warner Bros. Studios announced that it would be releasing the third third film in the revamped Batman series, July of 2012.

Only five years ago, we saw the release of Batman Begins, director Christopher Nolan’s grittier, more realistic take on the DC Comics superhero, which was soon followed by The Dark Knight, the behemoth of a superhero flick that took over IMAX theaters with an opening scene shot specifically for the format. While Nolan recently took a break to work on the upcoming film Inception, which features Batman Begins star Cillian Murphy, he’s expected back on the series along with his brother Jonathan who shared screenwriting credits on The Dark Knight.

Of course, just what Batman 3 will be about and who from amongst the cavalry of Batman supervillians will be facing off against the Caped Crusader remains to be seen. But we’re pretty sure the next year will pack plenty of more rumors and whispers of things to come.

Appropriately enough, news of Batman 3 came to us on the same day that Marvel released its first official pic of Thor (as portrayed by Chris Hemsworth) for the upcoming feature of the same name. Thor, along with current box-office favorite Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and Captain America (Chris Evans who will soon have his own film) will headline The Avengers when the film also sees release in 2012.

As for The Hobbit, which would span two movies, the producer-director team of Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, have to yet to receive the greenlight to go forward with production, likely as a result of the financial woes plaguing MGM over the last year.

It’s quite the wait. But as usual, merch helps to bridge the gap between films, so here’s a link to CmdStore’s collection of figures, statues and vehicles from The Dark Knight:

Alex Ross’ KINGDOM COME Superman

Alex Ross has produced some of the most memorable superhero and comic art seen in the last few years. The realism and retro sensibility in every one of his paintings is stunning, the style all his own while still encompassing what was beautiful about so much of the art that’s come before.

Naturally, a style as distinctive as Ross’ is something that is perfect to be captured in three dimensions for figures and statues, but it’s also something do distinctive that it would be very easy to make mistakes. Fortunately, the folks at DC Direct got it right on the original Justice and Kingdom Come and they’ve continued this trend on a brand new 12-inch scale figure of the older Kingdom Come Superman. Check it out!

And if the 12-inch figures aren’t enough or you’re just looking for something with a little more variety, check out the complete collection of 6-inch Kingdom Come figures, featuring all the characters from the epic story.
