Cover Girls of the DC Universe: Power Girl and Batgirl

Power Girl as drawn by Adam Hughes comes to tangible life in this new DC Direct 12-inch statue from their Cover Girls of the DC Universe (see the whole collection of DC statues and collectibles here). The nuances of his art (originally for the cover of POWER GIRL #2) are really impressively rendered here, from the curves of the fabric in her cape to the arches in her dark eyebrows and the way her hair moves in the wind. A beautiful piece by one of the most talented artists around. She’s available for pre-order now and will be shipping in September, so be ready if you want to snag this one!

And continuing with the Hughes/DC stuff, November brings another of the DC Universe’s women when a new Batgirl statue arrives. Shown untangling her grappling hook with all the heroism of a 50s pin-up, she’s not exactly the brash, bold Power Girl above, nor is she much of a dignified entry to the Bat-family. Frankly, I’d like to see a statue of Batman immortalised with a coquettish look and a fouled-up tool from his utility belt, but I think I’ll have to wait on that. For now, here’s a look at the 12-inch statue!

1:6 Scale G.I. Joe Figure from Sideshow: DUKE

GI Joe’s Duke is now available as a 1:6 scale figure from the folks at Sideshow. Still popular after forty-six years of the Hasbro-created franchise, GI Joe goes back to its 12-inch roots with this figure of the character Duke, created in 1983 and most recently portrayed by actor Channing Tatum in GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

This model is a throwback, though, and based not on any 2000s film, but on the grim-looking character traditionalists will know and love. The Duke 12-inch Figure boasts the following features:

* Fully articulated Pro male body Version 1.2 with 30+ points of articulation
* Duke portrait
* Undershirt
* Shirt
* Pants
* Boots
* Detailed belt
* Go Bag
* Utility belt
* Handgun pouch
* Helmet
* Goggles
* Water bottle
* Dog tags
* Medal
* Laser Rifle
* Rifle
* Rifle grenades x 6
* Pistol
* Pistol magazines x 2
* Grenades x 3
* Yellow smoke grenade x 1
* Red smoke grenade x 1
* Three sets of interchangeable hands
* 12-inch display base with G.I. Joe logo

A new pre-order has been added to our Sideshow Star Wars collection, which has already included the likes of Darth Vader, Padme Amidala, Lando Calrissian, Ki-Adi-Mundi and many, many more! Welcome the evil Emperor Palpatine.

Based on Ian McDiarmid’s chilling portrayal in the Star Wars franchise, this rendering of the Emperor stands 12 inches tall, features every bit of attention to detail that has made Sideshow the go-to company for high-quality figures and statues. He comes with interchangeable hands, a cane and a Star Wars logo display base and will be shipping in the second quarter of this year.

He’s not the only new addition, though! You can also check out the Coruscant Clone Trooper of the 41st Elite Corps, pre-orderable now and shipping around the same time as the Emperor. If you’re a big fan of that galaxy far, far away, you won’t want to miss out.

Benicio Del Toro as The Wolf Man : New Figures!

Noted awesome guy Benicio Del Toro’s next role onscreen will be in 2010’s The Wolf Man, a remake of the Lon Cheney original that’s sure to show a new generation what classic horror movies once brought to the table. And give Benicio fans (like me) a chance to see him take on a role unlike any he’s ever played.

And I’m more than pleased (and more than excited) to say it’s also going to be a treat for the toy collector in me, because the folks at Mezco, who previously brought us an incredible line from Hellboy and Hellboy II (as well as comic and series based figures), are releasing two Wolf Man figures featuring the awesome makeup designs by the legendary Rick Baker (look him up, you’re almost guaranteed to know at least some of his work!). There’s a 6-inch model and a 12-inch as well and both look spectacular. Check ’em out over at CmdStore’s Wolfman section or click the pic below!
