THE GREEN HORNET: Two New Figures in October

The Green Hornet girls were out in full force at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, building the hype for the upcoming Seth Rogen picture that brings back a hero the current generation is generally unfamiliar with. Here’s a look at the trailer…

Of course, fans of the original series or just the franchise as they’re used to might find the comedic take a little off-putting, but I think I’ll reserve my judgment for when I watch it (because I know I will) and just hope that the cast and crew do a bang-up job. Who knows? Maybe Seth Rogen will pull this one off.

But beyond the film itself, of course, you can expect one thing: collectibles. Beyond the pins, stickers, bags and various promo items, figures are a must-have for any big, (super?)heroic movie. And Mezco delivers! Here’s a look at the two figures we have available on pre-order, snaggable either as a set of both the Green Hornet and Kato or as individual fiures.

New BRIGHTEST DAY Pre-Orders from DC Direct!

“BRIGHTEST DAY is about second chances. It’s looking at twelve characters that have been resurrected and examining whether it’s a miracle or a curse. Some second chances work out… some don’t. BRIGHTEST DAY is the next step in repositioning a lot of characters in the DC Universe and pushing them to the next level.”
Geoff Johns

As Blackest Night comes to a close, are you ready for the dawn of DC’s new event, BRIGHTEST DAY? With a great collection of writers and artists collaborating on the comics and storylines, the next few months should be a pretty great time for fans of the heroes and villains they can expect to see along the way.

And, of course, the fact that something new is beginning also means that DC Direct is rolling out the new figures and I am very pleased to say that they look absolutely great. Standing 6 inches tall, brilliantly sculpted based on the new looks of the characters and the new art style of the event, they’re only the first series of what will surely be a very nice-looking collection. Check out the first four below, snaggable either individually or as a set! They can be pre-ordered now and ship in March 2011!

San Diego Comic Con 2010: PICTURES!

Well, I’ve just gotten back from San Diego and I’m very pleased to say that it was an absolute blast, if a little lighter on actual comic content than I’m used to. Really, though, I suppose it’s just the way of things that TV and movies seem to have officially taken precedence over the comic book stuff and at least it’s bringing people into the show where they’ll discover the stuff they might have missed out on! Plus, with movies like Red and shows like The Walking Dead, it’s further proof that there’s a symbiotic relationship between the media forms and that is definitely a good thing.

But without further ado, I’ll get to the meat of this post, THE PICTURES! Take a look at some of the cool items, set pieces and costumes from the biggest con in the world!

IRON MAN 2: 12-Inch ArtFX War Machine

The 12-inch ArtFX War Machine statue is the latest ArtFX pre-order we’ve got and it’s as nice a piece as any they’ve ever offered. As per usual, the look is sleek, clean, but perfectly detailed and the pose manages to be brilliantly dynamic even frozen on your display shelf.

Adding to the brilliant look of the statue, War Machine boasts a number of LED lights positioned in the eyes, chest and arms, as well as in the base, built not only to stand on, but in the image of a Repulsor Transmitter (meaning he’s lucky he’s not going flying). Unlike a lot of the other statues on offer, ArtFX has chosen to work in high-quality PVC, which actually looks pretty impressive and has a sheen that the others don’t. Fans of the film or the character on his own should definitely check it out!

Kubricks Celebrate DC’s 75th Anniversary

Okay, what’s the best? Think about it for a second. I mean, when you say “This is the best”, what are you probably looking at? Because whatever your answer is, you might just be wrong. And I know this because I am almost sure that this is the best:

Standing about 3 inches tall, this set of 10 DC Kubricks is a brilliant collection of adorable little figures that unites Batman’s friends and foes (and multiple Bat-incarnations). It’s a Medicom Japan import, meaning you can expect limited quantities, but as far as collections go, it really doesn’t get much better than this. Packaged in a window box, the set features the following:

Batman (comics-style): NEW DECO!
Superman (Superman Returns movie)
Batgirl (animated-style): NEW DECO!
The Joker (The Dark Knight movie): NEW DECO! NEW ACCESSORY!

Now, it’s all well and good to sit back and remember the good old days of Terminator, but it seems that most are not content with what recent years have to offer and are looking for more. Specifically, a recent poll has indicated that fans want to see more Arnold Schwarzenegger! Here’s the story from The Coventry Telegraph:

WITH California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger starring in action movie The Expendables in August and leaving office in January, fans are eagerly anticipating the actor’s return to the big screen.

Among his iconic previous roles was Conan, now being relaunched with Jason Momoa playing the barbarian, and as Major Dutch Schaeffer in 1987’s Predator. A new film in that franchise – Predators, starring Adrien Brody – is out in cinemas today.

To coincide with the release of Predators, asked filmgoers which role they would like the original star of Predator to reprise when he leaves office.

More than 30,000 fans weighed in, and 39 percent want to see Arnold, now 62, back at the box office as the Terminator.

The rights to the sci-fi series were bought by Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor for $29.5million in February.

Later that month, Willian Wisher, who scripted the first two films, revealed he had put together story outlines for a fifth and sixth film and had written in Schwarzenegger’s return in the sixth movie.

These are tentative story ideas by Wisher, who was publicising them in the hope of being hired as the screenwriter for future Terminator instalments.

Here are the poll results in full:

Which role do you want to see Arnold Schwarzenegger, star of the original Predator, re-visit when he leaves office?

A) Terminator (The Terminator series) – 39%

B) Harry Tasker (True Lies) – 37%

C) Detective John Kimble (Kindergarten Cop) – 16%

D) Jack Slater (Last Action Hero) – 4%

E) Julius Benedict (Twins) – 4%

New DEXTER Pre-Order!

Our Dexter section just saw the addition of a new, upcoming figure from Bif Bang Pow!, purveyors of awesome toys. Shipping in August, fans can get ready for a jumpsuit-wearing Dexter figure!

Standing at about 7-inches tall, this rendering of Michael C. Hall as the title character boasts not only a great likeness and sculpting, but great accessories (a welding mask and a saw that makes us all a little nervous) and a real cloth scrubs and and apron combo. It’s a chilling item, but we’ve gotta say that the serial serial killer killer (yep!) has never looked better. Fans should be sure to get their hands on this one before he’s gone.

Pre-Order now and he ships in August!

And if you’re heading to the 2010 Comic Con in San Diego, be sure to check out the Dexter Panel! See  their site for details!
