As Iron Man 2 starts shooting for its 2010 opening, fans of leading man Robert Downey Jr. can look forward to Christmas Day (for reasons besides…you know. Christmas) and the release of Sherlock Holmes. Guy Ritchie’s first large scale release of his post-Madonna days, the film sees “Detective Sherlock Holmes (Downey Jr.) and his stalwart partner Watson (Law) engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England” ( Also feauturing Canadian Rachel McAdams as the pretty, witty Irene Adler, it’s more action-packed, visceral take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation than we’ve ever seen and should be a great addition to Ritchie’s body of work. Above, you can see the first of the teaser posters. Whether it’s a clue as to the aesthetic of the film remains to be seen, but here are a pair of screencaps released earlier this year:

RDJ can also be seen alongside Jamie Foxx in The Soloist, but it’s not exactly a role that’ll satisfy those looking for a filmic punch of Iron Man. For Tony Stark fans, they’ll have to survive on comics, previews and, of course, a ton of merch. Like any good action figure store, we’ve got a bunch of items still in stock, from 6-inch figures to life-size busts. Check ’em out in the Iron Man collection, or take a look at the featured items below:

Battle Strikers at New York Toy Fair 2009

Battle Strikers Mega Brands

Hot off the presses from the New York Toy Fair…I found this interesting Newswire article about a new product.

MEGA Brands Launches a New Spin on Classic Battling Tops

Finally Putting the Power to Command in your Hands, Battle Strikers make North American Debut at New York Toy Fair

MONTREAL, Feb. 10 /CNW Telbec/ – MEGA Brands Inc (TSX: MB) is charged with excitement to introduce the first innovation to battling tops in over 50 years. Battle Strikers will be launched at the highly anticipated 2009 ToyFair in New York this month.

Unlike your parents’ and grandparents’ battling tops, Battle Strikers require no ripcords or pull strings. Featuring magnetic technology, Battle Strikers puts you in control, a first for any battling top. Battle Strikers are launched into battle with the Turbo Launcher, powering the “Strikers” up to 7500 RPMs. With the power of magnets, each ‘Striker’, has the ability to jump, dodge, and move into battle with the Controller. The sixteen unique, collectable and customizable Strikers are magnetically enhanced, and calibrated to different degrees of endurance with offensive or defensive precision.

“Battle Strikers draws on classic boy play patterns–collecting, creating, competing–and a proven play patterns–battling tops–to create a dynamic new brand for today’s kids,” says Chris Byrne (A.K.A. The Toy Guy (R)). “The toys encourage each individual player to hone their talent, ingenuity and skill to create unique competitive challenges that will foster social interaction and just plain fun.”

First unveiled at Hong Kong and UK Toy Fairs in January with great excitement, Battle Strikers are causing an industry-wide buzz. While battling tops have existed for over 2000 years, this classic toy has seen little to no innovation in recent decades – until now.

“With Battle Strikers, we have taken a classic play pattern and completely revitalized it,” states Vic Bertrand, Chief Innovation Officer of MEGA Brands. “We have integrated one of our core technologies to transform a ‘launch and watch’ toy into a ‘launch, control and battle’ experience”

Angel’s Andy Hallett Dies of Heart Failure

Andy Hallett

Being a big fanboy of Angel and Buffy the Vampire TV show, I have some sad news to share.

Actor Andy Hallett, best known to audiences as the demon Lorne from Joss Whedon’s Buffy, the Vampire Slayer spin-off Angel, has passed away from heart failure.

Thirty-three years old, Hallett had battled heart disease for the past five years. In addition to his acting, Hallett had a burgeoning music career.

A private funeral for Hallett is expected on Cape Cod.

Rest in peace, Andy.

Custom Toys by Jin Saotome (Dangerous toys)

I have noticed an increasing amount of customers who enjoy customizing their toys.   We have regulars who purchase Stikfas figures and paint them.   These customers have emailed me pictures of their work and it is pretty amazing what some creativity and paint can do.   We also have diehard customizers who dismantle figures and build completely different characters out of them.   For example, Jin Saotome’s Dangerous Toys would use parts of a GI-Joe figure and combine it with a Indiana Jones figure to create something like a Red Skull figure from the Marvel Universe.  Now that is freakin’ awesome!

Here is one of my favorite customizer who has a really cool site dedicated to customizing your Action Figures….Jin Saotome’s Dangerous Toys.   He has tutorials on customizing action figures which you must check out.

He is so good that his work is featured in Toyfare Magazine.   He sells some of his work on eBay and fetches some good bucks.  He has done some work for us and I would give him a big thumbs up (he’s also a really nice guy who loves to promote his passion of customizing).  Go ahead…check out his great website….you will be amazed at what he can do!

Tiger Woods Action Figure is here!

The return of Tiger Woods to the Golf world is a welcome to the economy.  Can this one single man stimulate a slowing golf market?  The answer is:  YES.   Tiger’s return to golf will definitely add some much need exposure and money to the Golf Tours.  I stopped watching golf on TV when Tiger was not playing and with his return I plan to follow his games.

With that said….we just got a shipment of Tiger Woods Pro Shots Golf Action figures….just click the image below to get a better view.

X-Men Origins: WOLVERINE Trailer

Fans of Marvel’s X-men had mixed feelings about X-Men: The Last Stand, the last entry in the franchise, and while it made a lot of cash at the box-office, reviews were less-than-stellar. The characters were said to be shallow versions of their former comic-and-movie selves, the plot was aimless and forced and the action more unbelievable. Personally, I was just wondering why no one seemed to care when Cyclops was missing for, like, ever.

But there’s a new hope with the upcoming Wolverine movie, which brings Hugh Jackman back as the eponymous hero and features the long-awaited appearance of characters like Gambit (Taylor Kitsch) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds). Liev Shreiber takes over the role of Sabretooth, last seen in the first film in 2000 (wherein he was portrayed by wrestler Tyler Mane) and the film deals with Wolverine’s hunt for revenge following his girlfriend’s death. So far, it looks promising, but only so much can be gathered from a trailer; fans are surely keeping their fingers crossed for some fair play for Logan and the other mutants.

As is the way of things, Hasbro has released a lot of merchandise for the film and we’ve gotten a shipment of X-Men Origins: Wolverine figures you can check out over at
