Hey, have you seen G.I. Joe: Retaliation? No? Well guess what: It’s ACTUALLY GOOD. After the mess of the first film, it’s hard to believe, but they’ve managed to make a movie that’s a heck of a lot of fun and shows some real love for the canon. We’ll admit it’s not the best -written or smartest movie, but if you don’t have a good time watching this, you might not have a pulse.
SNAKE EYES and TIMBER are the latest additions to Sideshow’s amazing line of GI JOE figures. Naturally, they’re some of the best figures out there and any fan of the franchise can agree that they’d make a fantastic addition to a display shelf. Take a look below:
With some amazing crafstmanship and articulation on both figures, this is a good choice if you’re looking to get into the higher-end collectibles. The Snake Eyes and Timber Sixth Scale Figure features:
Snake Eyes – Prometheus Body – Muscular Arm Version with 16 points of articulation
Timber – Fully Posable with 12 points of articulation
Two Snake Eyes Portraits – one with visor, one with goggles
Detailed costume includes a TAD Gear Messenger Bag, Commando Sweater, and other new fabric elements
XCR PDW Rifle
Grenade Launcher with multiple grenades
Assortment of switch-out hands
Pistol and Holster
Stage a two-on-two showdown on your shelf! G.I. Joe vs. Cobra has become a classic battle of the factions and now you can take control of CONRAD “DUKE” HAUSER and SNAKE EYES and face off against STORM SHADOW and COBRA NINJA VIPER (the power of two snakes!). They’re fully armed and ready for action. The pack includes all four figures, plus accessories, at the 3.75-inch scale. This pre-order ships in June!
Firefly (Renegades Version)
Snake Eyes (Renegades Version)
Duke (Renegades Version)
Cobra Commander (Renegades Version)
Those are the four new figures available in the 2012 Wave 2 selection of G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra. All based on Renegades, they have a unique styling that’s sure to appeal to collectors and fans. They join he likes of Sergeant Stalker, Iron Grenadier, Rock Viper and Temple Guardian Snake Eyes in the growing collection of awesome 3.75-inch renderings.
Sideshow’s impressive work on all of their figures generally impresses, but sometimes they have works that seem to stand out in a crowd and this Storm Shadow figure is surely among them. Sideshow always shines when their figures’ elaborate outfits are the type that cover all the joints, which adds a level of realism difficult to attain when your character’s elbows have obvious plastic pegs. He stands 12 inches all told and boasts the following features:
* Fully articulated Prometheus male body with 30+ points of articulation
* Storm Shadow masked portrait
* Storm Shadow unmasked portrait
* Sashes with pockets
* Forearm Bracers
* Leg wraps
* Ninja stars
* Long sword with scabbard
* Short sword with scabbard
* Nine interchangeable hands
* 12-inch display base with G.I. Joe logo
Of course, with Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes as the resident ninjas over in the world of G.I. Joe, one wonders when we’re going to find ourselves either rallying behind or at the mercy of some actual ninjas. Judging from an article over at Cracked.com, though, it’s going to be a while yet. Here’s an excerpt from their article “8 Amazing Stories of Ninja Failure”.
8. The Connecticut Ninja
The ninja is a creature of stealth and subtlety; he is a shadow that lives; a whisper in the night; a… guy screaming on a street corner and waving nunchucks around? A man in Vernon, Connecticut was arrested for loudly and repeatedly threatening to “beat up” Senator Joe Liebermann while dressed entirely in a black ninja outfit and brandishing a pair of nunchucks… at 11 o’clock in the morning.
What They Did Right:
Liebermann is an appropriate ninja target. He’s a famous turncoat–rich and reviled by the local peasants–but the appropriate ninja approach would be to sneak into his house, or ambush his caravan, or… send him nasty glances at a party and tell people his shoes look fat, or pretty much anything besides standing on a street corner at lunchtime and hollering about beating him up.
What They Did Wrong:
The black outfit is a staple of the ninja mythos: It conceals the ninja, making him one with the night. It is beautifully simple camouflage. However, its stealthy nature does not function at certain times . Those times are:
A. In Connecticut
B. 11 o’clock in the morning.
C. While screaming.
Also, police report that the subject was “belligerent and furious” until they pulled out bean bag guns and tasers, at which point the ninja in question “became polite and cooperative.” Man, if you’re just a ninja so long as nobody launches a hacky-sack into your junk at 200-mph, then you, sir, are no ninja.

But if you’re a discerning fan or collector, you might be wondering whether to get into the new line or, more specifically, which figures are are the best of the best! Well, wonder no more.
SoHood.com presents their Ultimate G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Toy Guide that helps you sift through the figures and figure out which ones to snag.
SoHood’s Edwin Diaz sorts through every single figure and rates them based on five points: Articulation and Pose ability, Durability, Color scheme paint job, G.I. Joe accessories, and Overall Design. He also includes the character descriptions from the toys themselves, meaning that even those a little rusty on their G.I. Joe Who’s Who can sift through the guide. Of Baronness, it is written:
Anastasia Decobray is as dangerous as she is beautiful. A master spy for COBRA and a powerful, high-ranking figure at M.A.R.S. Industries, she carries out her plans with icy efficiency.
So far, Night Adder and Pit Commander seem to be your best bets, both scoring perfect marks in every category! But if you really want to dare to compare, just head on over to SoHood.com!

4 G.I. Joe DS Screenshots Revealed
By Earnest Cavalli
Gijoe1 Publisher Electronic Arts has unveiled a handful of screenshots from the upcoming Nintendo DS movie tie-in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra revealing a top-down gameplay style for the title.
I can’t say that I have high hopes for the game, given the hit-and-miss-and-miss-again track record of film to game translations, but maybe developing the title as a simple Robotron-style shooter could work.
It doesn’t leave much room for cerebral plotting or tense storytelling — the gameplay style traditionally appeals to gamers looking for non-stop frenetic action, and not much else — but with a property based on a cartoon series designed to target pre-adolescent boys, this could be a wise choice.
Unless you were expecting the upcoming film to rival Apocalypse Now for characterization and emotionally stirring themes. In which case, I get the feeling you’re in for a bit of disappointment.
It might not be as thrilling a game as my beloved Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, but I have a feeling I’ll give it a shot anyway. As Cavalli said, there aren’t a heck of a lot of good movie games, but we shall see how this one goes down and, hopefully, G.I. Joe’s history will make for a team of very passionate designers.
And besides the upcoming game, look out for a number of new G.I. Joe items from the film and as well as new additions to the already massive action figure collection…
