Iron Patriot Armor To Be Featured In IRON MAN 3 Movie (See Photos)

June 1, 2012

New set photos confirm that The Iron Patriot Armor will be gracing Tony Stark’s newest solo movie Iron Man 3, but it’s not Stark who will be the one wearing the suit but a character played by James Badge Dale.

Iron Man 3 is currently kicking off its production in North Carolina at the moment. We will have updates pop up regarding some details on who Ben Kingsly is playing and other bits about the movie, so please check back again. The film is being directed by Shane Black (not Jon Favreau) and is slated for a May 3rd of 2013 release.

The Avengers beats Harry Potter, Hunger Games in Box-Office battle

May 7, 2012

The Avengers Movie Box Office Hit

‘The Avengers’ proved that five superheroes are better than one by bursting into Hollywood’s record books with a massive $200.3 million in ticket sales over its opening weekend in U.S. and Canadian theaters, kicking off Hollywood’s summer movie season with a bang.

The domestic debut for the big-budget, effects-filled movie from Disney’s Marvel studios sped past last summer’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows – Part 2,” which opened with $169.2 million in its first weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. In March, “The Hunger Games” opened with $152.5 million, the fourth largest opening in box office history.

“The Avengers,” which reunites Marvel comic heroes Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Black Widow, has collected $641.8 million since it opened in international markets on April 25.

“We keep thinking we have a sense of what this movie can do, or will do, and every time we get a report it does even better,” said Dave Hollis, Disney’s executive vice-president of distribution. “This is very satisfying, to say the least.”

Disney’s aggressive marketing, which included promotions aimed at women that included sending stars to “The View” daytime talk show, resulted in women making up 40 percent of the audience for the action film, according to Disney’s survey. Half the audience was also over 25 years of age, the studio also said.

Winner of the past two weekends, Sony’s romantic comedy “Think Like a Man,” slipped to second place with $8 million at North American (U.S. and Canadian) theaters, according to Hollywood.com.

“Hunger Games,” from Lions Gate Entertainment, took the No. 3 spot in its seventh week in theaters, with $5.7 million, and has collected $380.7 million in U.S. and Canadian theaters during its run.

Warner Brothers’ “The Lucky One” landed in fourth place with $5.5 million, and the animated film “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” from Sony finished in fifth place with $5.4 million.

The undisputed success of “Avengers” brought Disney the type of redemption that Hollywood loves to put on screen. In March, Disney released the expensive sci-fi adventure film “John Carter,” one of the biggest flops in box office history. The company said it expects to lose up to $200 million on that film.

“Avengers” is the first Marvel film released by Disney since the media and theme park giant purchased Marvel Entertainment Inc in 2009 for $4 billion, a move to expand its appeal to boys with a stable of superheroes.

Disney would not say whether it plans to make a sequel. Sequels to films based on the Thor and Iron Man characters are scheduled for next year and Captain America in 2014.

About 52 percent of “The Avengers” ticket sales came from higher-priced 3D tickets, Disney said. The film sold more than $15 million in tickets on 275 digital-only large-screen IMAX theaters, IMAX said, which it said would tie it with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows – Part 2” for its highest grossing opening weekend.

The first weekend in May kicks off Hollywood’s summer movie-going season, a four-month period typically filled with big-budget action movies and sequels. Coming movies include Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “Men in Black 3,” and “Battleship.”

Avengers Cosplay Figures

We just took off work (don’t worry, we packed up all the orders before we left) and watched the Avengers movie this afternoon.  It was a very good Marvel movie.  Audiences have rated it an extremely high 9.0 on IMDB, and 96% of critics like it or love it.  I could definitely watch this awesome flick again, expect significant repeat viewings after a huge weekend opening.

Who is my favorite character?  Legolas….no, I meant Hawkeye.

**SPOILER ALERT** The Avengers end credit scene introduces us to Thanos, who smiles when he’s told that to attack Earth is to “court death”. Thanos in the comics is fascinated with death and nihilism. He kills millions on his home planet with nuclear bombardment before travelling to earth. He is capable of superhuman strength and can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, enough to obliterate planets. His most famous storyline sees him gain possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, recently glimpsed in the Thor movie (in Odin’s trophy room). Each gem of that gauntlet grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, or Power. We know that Thanos is not a villain in Iron Man 3, and appears unlikely for Thor 2. So it’s fairly safe to assume the set up is for the next Avengers movie.  So maybe exepct to see Warlock somewhere too….

Rumor: Andy Lau, Jessica Chastain join Iron Man 3 cast

April 24, 2012

Iron-Man 3 Movie

Article by: Earnest Cavalli, Digital Trends

What do Jessica Chastain and Andy Lau have in common? If the latest Hollywood scuttlebutt is to be believed, both will be appearing in the next Iron Man movie.

Following hot on the heels of yesterday’s news that Guy Pearce is in talks to play geneticist Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3, comes a tandem of rumors placing both Andy Lau (Infernal Affairs, The House of Flying Daggers) and Jessica Chastain (The Help, The Tree of Life) in the film.

According to Sinophile style blog Neon Punch, Lau is “close to signing” on for a role in Iron Man 3. Initially the site speculated that Lau would be playing classic Iron Man foe The Mandarin, though given Lau’s massive stardom in his native China and the fact that Iron Man 3 is being partially funded by Chinese backers, it seems unlikely that Marvel would be allowed to turn such a beloved actor into a decidedly Chinese icon of malevolence. Artistic vision be damned, the Chinese don’t like their hometown boys to look like jerks.

Along these lines, a later update to the Neon Punch piece claims that Lau will be playing “an old friend of Tony Stark’s that represents China’s technology sector.” Furthermore, it claims that The Mandarin is indeed in the film, but that Lau’s character gathers “China’s armored heroes to help Iron Man” defeat this iteration of the borderline racially inflammatory villain, who is described as “a terrorist against both the US and China.”

As for Chastain, Deadline claims that she is “back in the mix to play a starring role” in the film. Specifically, the role of an as-yet-unnamed “sexy scientist [who is] every bit as smart as Tony Stark.” Those of you familiar with super intelligent characterization tropes and/or the logic that drives every single sitcom of the past three decades will likely recognize this as a perfect set up for Stark to fall for Chastain’s character, after a protracted period of the two butting heads, arguing and attempting to one-up one another in a convenient if unlikely series of mental exercises. Perhaps there will be a particularly difficult math problem that Stark can’t solve, and then when Chastain’s scientist handily proves her cerebral abilities, Tony will realize that maybe he isn’t the pinnacle of human intelligence. Thus humbled, the two will kiss, look deeply into each other’s eyes and I’m sure you know the rest.

How exactly that will tie in with the Extremis storyline, the likely inclusion of The Mandarin and whatever Ben Kingsley might be doing in the film remains to be seen, though this immense amount of plot elements does raise worrying flags that Iron Man 3 might be reminiscent of the disappointing Spider-Man 3. That film, though initially exciting to fans for its inclusion of iconic Spider-Man foe Venom, simply attempted to cram too much plot into its 139-minute run time, and the result was a film that seemed disjointed and schizophrenic. Hopefully Marvel will recall the lessons of the 2007 Tobey Maguire/James Franco/Topher Grace vehicle, though we likely won’t know anything for sure until Iron Man 3 hits theaters on May 3, 2013.

Spiderman Movie 2012 Reboot

I enjoyed the Toby Maguire Spider-Man series of films but I think we can all agree that they had some pretty terrible moments, particularly the third film. When I heard they were going to make a fourth with the same actors I wanted to tell them to give it a rest but Hollywood and character rights being what they are, they decided to move ahead, only to change direction and reboot the series instead.   The trailer looks incredibly dark. Not Batman Begins dark, more like they needed a bigger budget for lighting dark. Hopefully it won’t be so shady in theaters.

They’re made by NECA, which means that the detail and sculpting are sure to be awesome. And while NECA isn’t known for offering great articulation, the fact that they’re based on an animatronic character not known for his own movement, these are actually pretty perfect.
