As Iron Man 2 starts shooting for its 2010 opening, fans of leading man Robert Downey Jr. can look forward to Christmas Day (for reasons besides…you know. Christmas) and the release of Sherlock Holmes. Guy Ritchie’s first large scale release of his post-Madonna days, the film sees “Detective Sherlock Holmes (Downey Jr.) and his stalwart partner Watson (Law) engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England” (imdb.com). Also feauturing Canadian Rachel McAdams as the pretty, witty Irene Adler, it’s more action-packed, visceral take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation than we’ve ever seen and should be a great addition to Ritchie’s body of work. Above, you can see the first of the teaser posters. Whether it’s a clue as to the aesthetic of the film remains to be seen, but here are a pair of screencaps released earlier this year:
RDJ can also be seen alongside Jamie Foxx in The Soloist, but it’s not exactly a role that’ll satisfy those looking for a filmic punch of Iron Man. For Tony Stark fans, they’ll have to survive on comics, previews and, of course, a ton of merch.
