August 15, 2011

Two Marvel teams have just been brought to action figure life as 3.75 inch figures in a pair of multi-toy packs you can snag today! Check them out.

The Fantastic Three
Following the untimely death of The Human Torch (who we’re pretty sure is going to come back one day), the Fantastic Four became the Fantastic Three and, while not the best name, they make a great figure pack. Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing and H.E.R.B.I.E. are all here to make the best out of a bad situation and continue the war on crime and villainy as only they can.

The Original Avengers

The original Avengers consisted of Thor, Iron Man (gold here), Hulk, Wasp and Ant-Man and they’re all here in this fantastic 5-figure pack. If you’re a fan of the classic team or looking forward to their unity in the movieverse, be sure to check this one out!

Before She Disappears… SUE STORM, THE INVISIBLE WOMAN

August 12, 2011

SUE STORM, the Invisible Woman, gets the Bishoujo treatemtn as a PVC statue figure from Kotobukiya.

Using a blend of clear and painted PVC, she begins to vanish just as she walks confidently and teasingly toward the viewer, dropping the sharp remains of a force field as she goes. With a defeated opponent beneath her, she strides confidently away in her classic Fantastic Four outfit.

Sue stands about 9 inches tall and features the hand of a massive green monster from the cover of Fantastic Four #1, “The Mole Man’s Monster”.

Human Torch from Fantastic Four is Dead

January 26, 2011

From Associated Press.

Fantastic Four 587Yeah…you read the title correctly.  Marvel Comics has revealed which member of the Fantastic Four will die in the latest issue of the long-running comic series.

After announcing in December that one of the four was to fall in January, series writer Jonathan Hickman said Tuesday that Johnny Storm — The Human Torch — would be the casualty in issue no. 587. The issue, featuring art by illustrator Steve Epting, was released on Tuesday.  Why couldn’t it be Sue Richards (the Invisible Woman)…oh why?

In an ongoing storyline titled The War of Four Cities, Storm sacrifices himself so that his niece, his nephew and his best friend and fellow superhero, The Thing, can escape a parallel universe known as the Negative Zone. The storyline has been under way for the last year and a half.

His decision leaves teammates Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman and the Thing to pick up the pieces and move forward.

“I thought [Johnny's sacrifice] should be noble, self-sacrificing and most of all I thought it should be heroic. I think Johnny was most certainly all of those things,” Hickman said.

Marvel also revealed that issue no. 588 will be finale issue of Fantastic Four, a comic franchise that has been around since 1961, when it was created by industry icons Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Like his teammates, Storm gained his superpowers after being bombarded with cosmic rays. The character has played a key role in the adventures of the quartet.

“Johnny was, in simplistic terms, the ‘id’ of the team,” Hickman said in a statement.

“He represented the child-like, more innocent view of the world. He stood in direct contrast to the world ‘as it really is.’”

Tom Brevoort, Marvel’s senior vice president for publishing, said the subplots and threads that Hickman has created “will converge in a new thing that will be exciting and different and yet, very familiar and very much the same.”

Comic books are notorious for killing off characters and resurrecting them in mysterious ways and Hickman is cagey about whether this will happen with the Human Torch.

“While I will never discount that a character can come back from the dead because it is one of the staples of comic book story telling, I’m not going to tell you if he will, or when he will and if he does, how he will, but I can assure you that it’s going to be very, very interesting and not what anyone expects.”

I like that last paragraph above….typical comic book death….Johnny Storm will be back my friends….He will be freakin’ back!  Oh, don’t go out and buy ten copies of this issue…just pick up one and enjoy the comic book.  Forget about buying extra copies for your kid’s college fund….the Human Torch will return…I can promise you that.

Sideshow Presents: SUE STORM and GHOST RIDER

October 12, 2010

The new SUE STORM Comiquette from Sideshow is one of two new Marvel/Sideshow pre-orders we’ve just gotten in. Part of the Women of Marvel Comiquette line, The Invisible Woman is shown putting that impressive talent to work as she begins to fade out of (or into?) sight, her feet clear as they vanish. Standing at about 16 inches tall and boasting some of the most realistic proportions you’re likely to find on one of these items, the Comiquette was based on the absolutely stunning art of Jelena Djurdjevic. If you’re a fan of the artist, the character or just love beautiful statues, then I’ve no doubt you’ll enjoy this one. You can pre-order it now and it ships in the first quarter of 2011.

But of course, it’s possible you’re looking for something a bit rougher around the edges…or a little more on-fire, in which case I’ll direct you towards this one, the new GHOST RIDER Sideshow figure:

Riding his Hellcycle, Ghost Rider cuts an impressive figure and makes a great item for both play and display. Pre-orderable now and shipping a bit later this year, the design is based on the Nicholas Cage film and comes with an alternate head that’ll make that a little bit obvious. But for more info, I’ll defer to Sideshow’s official list of features. Prepare to be impressed!

The THING from Marvel Select

July 9, 2010

It’s clobberin’ time! The Fantastic Four’s Ben Grimm, better known as the Thing, joins the Marvel Select collection. As with many of Diamond’s deluxe figures for Marvel, Thing stands over eight inches tall and is as heavy and as solid as the character demands. It’s a sculpt by Digger and brings the Thing to life just brilliantly.

And the rest of the Marvel Select line has been looking pretty good lately, too. Available for pre-order right now are characters like Juggernaut, Deadpool, Cyclops and Magneto and they’ll be adding to a collection that already features the likes of Black Cat, Iron Man 2′s War Machine and the Red Hulk Exclusive. It’s a good time to be a fan.
