Okakuthon 2012 is this weekend: August 3-5, 2012

August 2, 2012

Otakuthon 2012

It is that time of the year again.  We have 4 booths at this year’s Montreal Anime and Manga convention held at the Palais des Congres (Convention center located in Montreal’s Chinatown).   I love doing shows at this convention hall because I get to eat lots of chinese food.  Ok, the food is not as good as NYC or Toronto…but I still get to eat some duck or BBQ/roast pork.   I start off with a few curry buns and then get a good meaty lunch of porky goodness.  At night, I get some steamed oysters with black beans and ginger along with some good stir fry.  Enough food talk, see you at the show.

Patrick Stewart headline Guest at the FanExpo 2012

January 24, 2012

FAN EXPO CANADA™ 2012 is proud to announce Patrick Stewart as a headline guest.

The English film, television and stage actor is most widely known for his television and film roles, such as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and its successor films, Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film series, and as the voice of Director Bullock in American Dad!.

We are petitioning the FanExpo crew to get the Greatest Musical performer of all time….it would be awesome if they got William Hung. Man, that guy can sing….

Review of Otakuthon 2011 Anime/Manga Convention Show

September 11, 2011

Well, Otakuthon 2011 came and went in a flash. It was organized by the Concordia University Anime Club and I have to say it was a smashing success. Not to kiss any assess but the staff and volunteers were incredible. We have done hundreds of shows over the past 20 years and we never had any convention staff/volunteers help us unload before the show started. It was freakin’ great!  We are looking forward to returning next year.    Thank you Elaine, the wonderful Otakuthon staff and all the volunteers who helped us out.

Yeah…I know it’s kind of late but I finally had time to upload the pics I took at the Toronto Comic Con (2010) held at the Direct Energy Centre on the weekend of March 27-28, 2010. Lots of things to do and buy at the show.

The Next Montreal Comic Con: December 6th, 2009!

October 7, 2009

The success of September’s Montreal Comic Con means that the organizers aren’t going to waste any time prepping for the next one! And so, on December 6th, expect a one-day Comic Con featuring guests like Kane Hodder, Lloyd Kaufman and Monica Rial, plus a number of other guests soon to be announced! You can check out the official website for more info!

And coming up even sooner is the Montreal Toy Con–it’s a little out of the way for downtown-dwellers, taking place in St. Laurent’s Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, but if you’re looking for the best new and vintage comic, toys and collectibles, this is worth the trip! There’ll be a ton of dealers, plus cosplayers, LEGO and building enthusiasts and more! It goes down October 18th, costs only $4 (Kids 5 and under free) and is sure to be a blast! Click the pic to visit the site and find out more!

The Montreal Comic Con: June 7th, 2009! Plus, Montreal Toycon!

May 21, 2009

I just got an e-mail informing me that there’ll be a Montreal Comic Con in just a couple weeks! It’s being held at Place Bonaventure on Sunday June 7th from 11am to 5pm and features piles and piles of comics, action figures and collectibles, clubs, costuming and a selection of national and international artists like Mike and Laura Allred, Herb Trimpe, Mark Texeira, Michael Golden and Dale Eaglesham. Tickets are a mere $3.

And coming up after the summer’s over, check out the next Montreal Toy Con at the Courtyard by Marriott Montreal Airport.

Once again, it’ll feature the hottest toys around, plus vintage items for collectors. And since it’s October, why not join in with the costumed fun and dress up as your favourite character? There’ll be a ton of Cosplayers present, as usual, so don’t miss out!
