20-inch Hulk Bust from Sideshow

March 18, 2010

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to wake up in the morning, drag yourself out of bed and down the stairs to the living room to suddenly come face with a massive green mutant staring you down, sending you stumbling backward, only to trip on the edge of the carpet and fall on your behind?

Yes?

Then we’re proud to say that we’ve just gotten in a pre-order item that might help you try that out. Here it is:

Yep! How about that on the mantelpiece? At 20 inches tall, this thing isn’t just big, it’s life-size. Brought to you by Sideshow (who seem to have made a lot of appearances on this blog lately), you can find it here and pre-order now. It ships in the third quarter of this year, which will give you plenty of time to mentally prepare.

Sideshow’s 12” Emperor Palpatine Figure

March 18, 2010

A new pre-order has been added to our Sideshow Star Wars collection, which has already included the likes of Darth Vader, Padme Amidala, Lando Calrissian, Ki-Adi-Mundi and many, many more! Welcome the evil Emperor Palpatine.

Based on Ian McDiarmid’s chilling portrayal in the Star Wars franchise, this rendering of the Emperor stands 12 inches tall, features every bit of attention to detail that has made Sideshow the go-to company for high-quality figures and statues. He comes with interchangeable hands, a cane and a Star Wars logo display base and will be shipping in the second quarter of this year.

He’s not the only new addition, though! You can also check out the Coruscant Clone Trooper of the 41st Elite Corps, pre-orderable now and shipping around the same time as the Emperor. If you’re a big fan of that galaxy far, far away, you won’t want to miss out.

New Polystone Marvel Comiquettes from Sideshow

March 16, 2010

We’re being spoiled for Sideshow Comiquettes! Two new ones have arrived: The X-Force Diorama and the Silver Surfer statue. Here’s a look at both!

Warpath, Wolfsbane, Wolverine, and X-23 are united in X-Force, Cable’s crack mutant team. Wearing their signature, darkly-toned outfits, they stand at the ready, prepared to face some unseen foe. The whole thing is about 14 inches tall and features a sculpted base beneath the four figures. And if that’s not enough, it also boasts a changeable Wolverine so that he can appear with or without his mask.

Next up, we’ve got Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer. I’ve always found him a tough character to like because even at his best, he tends to give off a very dated 80s vibe that I just can’t get into. But I have to say that when he’s done well, he’s done well and this is one of those times where they’ve managed to make him look very cool. He stands a whopping 24 inches tall and boasts a few special features:
* Three switch-out heads with alternate expressions
* Two sets of switch-out arms, including one set with arms extended and one set with arms extended wielding the power cosmic
* One additional arm with fist pose

Sideshow + Hot Toys = Mech Test Tony Stark Figure

March 16, 2010

When the brilliant minds at Hot Toys and Sideshow come together to put out a figure, you know you’re in for something truly unique and truly astounding. The latest Iron Man figure is no exception. Just take a look:

This is the Mech Test version of Iron Man, a rendering of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark trying out the internal structure (and sweet repulsor) of his final Iron Man design. One of the things that I find impressive about this figure is how well it pulls off the casual look of Stark in the film; whereas most figures can rely on unusual outfits and costumes to cover any strangeness in the artificial human form, it’s easy for anyone to look at a rendering of a given actor in casual wear and cry “That looks weird”! In fact, even Medicom’s Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne figure suffered from there, where the cut of the suit is just a little bit unnatural. Stark here, though, pulls the look off perfectly. He stands 12 inches tall and features, among other things…
* Two pairs of interchangeable hand palms
* LED-lighted heart device, hand gauntlet and boots (battery operated – batteries included)
* Realistic mechanically wired gloves and boots
* Articulated mechanical robot with fire extinguisher
* 6″ x 6″ square black figure stage
* Cardboard backdrop imitating Tony Stark workshop setting from the film

Stark is available for pre-order now and ships in the second quarter of this year!

Now, if that’s a collector’s item and you’re more of a casual Iron Man fan or possibly just one on a budget, you’ll be pleased to know we’ve also just gotten the first of the Marvel Universe Iron Man 2 Figures!

These are 6-inchers and the collection includes figures from both movies, from Iron Man to Iron Monger, War Machine to Whiplash. Check ‘em all out!

Captain America: Avengers Reborn by Kotobukiya

February 23, 2010

Over in our Marvel Sideshow section, we’ve got a brand new imported figure from the brilliant Japanese sculptors at Kotobukiya. Definitely a high-end piece, it’s available for pre-order and ships this June. Have a look:

The patriotic American super soldier stands triumphant on the field of battle, a bastion of freedom and democracy standing firm while raising his iconic shield over his head. His uniform and signature look are recreated down to the last detail, with special emphasis paid to the sculpting of Captain America’s impressive musculature and the scales of his armored shirt. Cap’s classic look is comprised of vivid red, white, and blue, with subtler accents of facial skin tone, and dark leather boots and belt pouches with metallic fasteners. You can display Captain America in two different ways according to your preferences, utilizing either of his included heads: the traditional winged look and World War II D-Day helmet variant! Captain America stands approximately 12 1/2″ inches tall (1/6th-scale), with one foot on a rocky stone base decorated with the classic Avengers “A” logo. The deluxe motif base connects to those of the other members of the Avengers Reborn series, Thor and Iron Man. Sculpted by master artist Junnosuke Abe, Captain America is constructed of high-quality cold cast porcelain and is a limited, numbered edition.

Sideshow and Hot Toys’ The Matrix Sentinel

February 18, 2010

Standing at a whopping 15 inches, the latest from statue and figure giants Hot Toys and Sideshow is an unlikely choice: A sentinel from The Matrix. You might remember the squid-like robots from the 1999-2003 film trilogy (or the Animatrix, a collection of animated shorts taking place in the Matrix’s strange universe), where they were the manifestation of everything that would destroy humanity. I was definitely surprised to hear that this was coming out now, so long after the trilogy has ended, but I suppose it’s one of those franchises that can still boast a huge number of die-hard fans.

From Sideshow: The Sentinel features 15 poseable tentacles, each with 2 points of articulation, and 10 poseable limbs beneath the main squid body, each with 3 points of articulation.

For this entry, I checked both Google News and the Matrix wiki for any information on whether there was more coming and while Google provided little, the wiki does claim that something’s coming out this year, so I guess we’ll have to spend at least some of 2010 staying tuned for word! Until then, Matrix action figure memories

Sideshow’s Storm Shadow Figure and Some Less Impressive Ninjas

February 16, 2010

Sideshow’s impressive work on all of their figures generally impresses, but sometimes they have works that seem to stand out in a crowd and this Storm Shadow figure is surely among them. Sideshow always shines when their figures’ elaborate outfits are the type that cover all the joints, which adds a level of realism difficult to attain when your character’s elbows have obvious plastic pegs. He stands 12 inches all told and boasts the following features:

* Fully articulated Prometheus male body with 30+ points of articulation
* Storm Shadow masked portrait
* Storm Shadow unmasked portrait
* Sashes with pockets
* Forearm Bracers
* Leg wraps
* Quiver
* Bow
* Arrows
* Ninja stars
* Long sword with scabbard
* Short sword with scabbard
* Nine interchangeable hands
* 12-inch display base with G.I. Joe logo

Of course, with Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes as the resident ninjas over in the world of G.I. Joe, one wonders when we’re going to find ourselves either rallying behind or at the mercy of some actual ninjas. Judging from an article over at Cracked.com, though, it’s going to be a while yet. Here’s an excerpt from their article “8 Amazing Stories of Ninja Failure”.

8. The Connecticut Ninja

The ninja is a creature of stealth and subtlety; he is a shadow that lives; a whisper in the night; a… guy screaming on a street corner and waving nunchucks around? A man in Vernon, Connecticut was arrested for loudly and repeatedly threatening to “beat up” Senator Joe Liebermann while dressed entirely in a black ninja outfit and brandishing a pair of nunchucks… at 11 o’clock in the morning.

What They Did Right:

Liebermann is an appropriate ninja target. He’s a famous turncoat–rich and reviled by the local peasants–but the appropriate ninja approach would be to sneak into his house, or ambush his caravan, or… send him nasty glances at a party and tell people his shoes look fat, or pretty much anything besides standing on a street corner at lunchtime and hollering about beating him up.

What They Did Wrong:

The black outfit is a staple of the ninja mythos: It conceals the ninja, making him one with the night. It is beautifully simple camouflage. However, its stealthy nature does not function at certain times . Those times are:

A. In Connecticut
B. 11 o’clock in the morning.
C. While screaming.

Also, police report that the subject was “belligerent and furious” until they pulled out bean bag guns and tasers, at which point the ninja in question “became polite and cooperative.” Man, if you’re just a ninja so long as nobody launches a hacky-sack into your junk at 200-mph, then you, sir, are no ninja.

Sideshow and Hot Toys: Terminator T-600 Figure

February 9, 2010

The T-600 Sideshow Exclusive Terminator figure (Martin Laing edition) has just been added to our inventory over at CmdStore’s Terminator Section (see general Terminator section here). Here’s a look and the official writeup!

Under special distribution arrangement with Hong Kong toymaker Hot Toys, DC Direct is proud to offer this 1:6 scale figure of the Martin Laing Signature Edition T-600 endoskeleton killing machine – complete with the severed heads of two T-700 machines at its feet!

This T-600 version was inspired by the original T-600 concept art created by production designer and artist Martin Laing, featuring a variant machine gun design and bullet container. This edition, complete with an exclusive base featuring two light-up T-700 heads, was designed by Hot Toys especially for DC Direct.

In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

• Stands approximately 14 inches tall
• Over 25 points of articulations, plus completely articulated fingers
• T-600 eyes light- up! Button cell battery operated/battery included
• Accessories includes Gatling gun ammo pack based on the conceptual artwork created by Martin Laing

Albert Wesker: 12-inch Resident Evil Figure

February 4, 2010

The newest arrival in our Resident Evil section (the last Resident Evil post dealt with pre-orders) is this 12-inch Sideshow figure of Albert Wesker…

As you can probably gather from the picture, this is high-end item that is definitely intended for the die-hard fans of the massively popular Resident Evil series (known as Bio Shock internationally, which makes me wonder what Bioshock is called…). While there are 6-inch figures and a number of accessories related to the game, the upper echelon of RE merch is reserved for things like this. But in any event, I’m sure I could tell you anything I wanted about the figure and it will still be sure to separate the superfans from the more casual gamers. Either way, I think we’ll let the specs below speak for themselves.

* Hot Toys TrueType figure body with over 36 points of articulation
* Battery-operated illuminated red eyes (button cell batteries included)
* Trench coat
* Zip-up op
* Pants
* Boots
* Knife
* Samurai Edge handgun
* H&K MP5 machinegun
* Hydra shotgun
* L. Hawk Magnum
* Laser targeting device
* Shoulder holster
* Smart phone
* Sunglasses
* Watch
* Two sets of interchangeable hands
* 12-inch figure stand with Bio Hazard 5 logo and Albert Wesker nameplate

Sideshow’s Upcoming Silk Spectre II

January 21, 2010

WATCHMEN’s Silk Spectre II has already been rendered as a 6-inch figure by DC Direct, but the company has now joined on with Hot Toys to release a new 12-inch model using real fabric and an incredible likeness of the Zach Snyder film’s Malin Akerman.

This beautiful figure is fully articulated, brilliantly poseable and looked great when I saw it on display at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. I can promise that the picture here doesn’t do it any justice: the work they’ve done on the face is stunning. Be sure to check this one out if you’re a fan of the film–or just a fan of the comics who has not made any anti-materialist promises to Alan Moore. Shipping early this year, but can already be pre-ordered.
