New 3.75-Inch Scale (Over 2 feet all!) AT-AT

The new 3.75-inch scale IMPERIAL AT-AT joins the ever-growing collection of Star Wars vehicles and looks great doing it.

The AT-AT, or Imperial All Terrain Armored Transport, stands over TWO FEET TALL, in perfect scale with the 3.75-inch Star Wars figures to offer the massive, imposing presence that marked its appearances in the Star Wars Universe–most prominently in the Battle of Hoth.

This figure itself comes with a Speeder Bike figure, as well as an AT-AT Driver and can lower and retract a rappelling line from its underside. More than that, though, it boasts “light-up reciprocating chin guns, a light-up command section, battle and vehicle sounds and firing side-mounted blasters to bring the excitement of the intergalactic saga straight to your living room!” And what’s more, you can fit a whopping 19 figures in the AT-AT body, meaning that, on top of a toy, it might make for some pretty decent themed storage space!

Coming Soon: The Return of HardCore Nerdity!

The premiere social network for geeks, Hardcore Nerdity has been down for some time, needing to upgrade its servers to properly accommodate the teeming masses in desperate need of their nerd fix.

Well, finally, it seems to be on its way back! A site-wide e-mail and a pre-Fan-Expo message posted on their main page suggests that the long wait is nearly at an end and fans can expect the return of Jonathan Llyr’s magnum opus very, very soon!

DON’T PANIC!

What has it been like to live two full months without our beloved HcN? Well, we got to know our loved ones better, took our precious puppy out for a walk and rediscovered the glory that is “fresh air”. We went to family gatherings, played sports, maybe even went for a swim. We saw movies, we read books, we dusted off that unfinished model of the Millenium Falcon and now it’s slightly less unfinished.

But fear not, oh loyal HcNers, your living torment is close to an end.

For HcN is returning soon! How soon? Like . . . dude . . . really soon. But all great things are worth the wait, and we would be remiss in giving you a site that was only half its potential. So some final tweaks are being twacked, and nits are being picked.

“I don’t trust you!” you say. “You have deserted us. How can we believe a word you say??”

Believe it my friends, believe it. For here we have proof – a screen cap of the new and improved and snazzy HcN:

Adding to that we are still hard at work gathering super awesome content for the site, and will be present at FanExpo this weekend like every year so do seek us out!

But! there’s some even bigger and more surprising news out there for Star Wars fans with the release of a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi. Here’s a look!

If you can’t watch at work or wherever you’re reading this, then never fear! The Telegraph has a run-down right here:

The announcement was made at the recent Star Wars convention in Orlando, Florida, before the scene was shown.
In it, Darth Vader is seen walking down a corridor, and into a lift, before repeatedly calling a drawn out “Luke” and adding “join me on the dark side”.

He says: “My son it is the only way.”

A dark hooded Skywalker, with only the lower half of his face visible and cast into relief by stark lighting, looks down at the light sabre in his hands.

He then makes some adjustments to it with a tool, before changing hands and lighting the sabre’s green blade.

In the last few frames of the scene, he is shown to be sat in a cave in the desert, with R2D2 and C3PO waiting for him outside.

Some fans said the scene was significant because its dark tone added to the intriguing uncertainty of whether Luke would remain with the jedi or go to the dark side.

PREDATORS: Three New 7-Inch Figures

NECA has just released three new figures based on this year’s PREDATORS, a retelling of the original that features several new variants on the original creatures. Each one stands about 7 inches tall, features the incredible sculpting for which NECA has become known and comes with film- and character-accurate accessories to assist these monsters in tracking and bagging their human quarry. And for fans looking to go even further with their full-on Predator experience (something that only sounds legal thanks to that capital ‘P’), the App Store has a proposition for you! MobileTor has the info.

Here’s an interesting addition for movie buffs adoring the alien-packed action movie Predators. Well, Fox Digital, Chillingo and Angry Mob Games join hands to launch the Predators Lite application for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices. Through this application, players can fight with some of the utmost dangerous aliens and use some threatening weapons to destroy them.

In this application, users take on the character of the fearsome Predator which is claimed to be based on the latest chapter of the ‘Predators’ by Robert Rodriguez. They can hone their killing techniques by using various weapons to track and destroy an array of human killers like mercenaries, assassins, death-squad soldiers, cartel, enforcers, black ops sniper and more.

By getting the heads of human prey, users can complete their targets to win and claim trophies as well. They can further unlock new alien technologies and weaponry for completion of the hunt as well. Users are required to be careful of their each and every move as they have to swiftly and silently kill the enemies one-by-one. This will eventually slowly eliminate the whole group. The application also features deadly blades and lethal Smart Discs.

Civil War Cylon Centurion and a NEW BSG Spin-Off!

Good news for BSG fans! Firstly, with the addition of a Civil War Cylon Centurion to our Battlestar Galactica section over at CmdStore:

The figure stands about 7 inches tall and comes with a number of switchable parts and a bunch of accessories, plus a collector card. It also boasts some brilliant sculpting and a full 20 points of articulation. If you’re a fan of the show, it’ll make a great addition to your toyshelf and might help remind you of the good old days.

Although, really, those days aren’t exactly over? With Caprica thrilling fans, it seems that BSG is the show that keeps on giving. Which is demonstrated even further by an upcoming web series…

Here’s the good news from The Chicago Tribune…

Those who’ve been hoping for a new chapter of the “Battlestar Galactica” story may get their wish.

An online series called “Blood & Chrome” is in the works, one that would follow the experiences of a young William “Husker” Adama in the first Cylon War.

According to Mark Stern, Syfy’s executive vice president of original programming and the co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions, “Battlestar Galactica” and “Caprica” co-executive producer Michael Taylor will write the the script for the new venture.

“Blood & Chrome” is “about a young man’s initiation into war: both the realities of war as fought by soldiers on the ground (and in Battlestars and Vipers), and the somewhat less real version portrayed in the media,” according to Taylor.

“Blood & Chrome” would consist of nine or 10 episodes of nine or 10 minutes each, and it would make use of cutting-edge digital technology and special effects to depict the Cylon War. If it is greenlit to production, it will be filmed using green screens and virtual sets, not unlike Syfy’s “Sanctuary” or James Cameron’s “Avatar.” Before “Battlestar Galactica” ended, high-tech scans were made of all the show’s sets, so that the special-effects team will be able to re-create them (possibly even in 3D).

“I’ve seen the virtual, 3D version of CIC ['Battlestar's' Combat Information Center] and it’s pretty damn cool,” Taylor said. “And yet the movie isn’t confined to Galactica. Far from it. It’s a story that will take us to new corners of the ‘Battlestar’ world (or worlds), and yet it aims to be a very contemporary war movie in a lot of ways. I would say I’m thinking as much of Afghanistan and Iraq–the reality of ‘Hurt Locker,’ Sebastian Junger’s ‘Restrepo,’ and similar movies–as I am about about the largely implied past of ‘Battlestar.’”

Though Taylor said he’ll strive for the kind of emotional engagement that was the hallmark of “Battlestar,” which ended in 2009, expect lots of of cliffhangers and visceral suspense as well. “We’re not going to be shying away from R-rated blood and guts and sex,” Taylor noted. “Because this is initially meant to air online, we pretty much have no restrictions in that department.”

It’s not known yet if “Blood & Chrome” would star Nico Cortez, the actor cast as young Adama in “Razor,” a previous “Battlestar Galactica” movie. There may be one other character from “Razor” in the new online series, but it would feature a mostly new cast.

If “Blood & Chrome” is successful, it could be the first a series of similar projects, and if it’s judged very successful, it could even act as a backdoor pilot for a TV show set in that war-torn “BSG” era.

San Diego Comic Con 2010: PICTURES!

Well, I’ve just gotten back from San Diego and I’m very pleased to say that it was an absolute blast, if a little lighter on actual comic content than I’m used to. Really, though, I suppose it’s just the way of things that TV and movies seem to have officially taken precedence over the comic book stuff and at least it’s bringing people into the show where they’ll discover the stuff they might have missed out on! Plus, with movies like Red and shows like The Walking Dead, it’s further proof that there’s a symbiotic relationship between the media forms and that is definitely a good thing.

But without further ado, I’ll get to the meat of this post, THE PICTURES! Take a look at some of the cool items, set pieces and costumes from the biggest con in the world!

Hot Toys and Sideshow’s T-1000 as Sarah Conner figure

Hey, it’s Sarah Conner! Or…is it? This Hot Toys and Sideshow collaboration makes it a tough question to answer until you take a look at the accessories (and we will in just a minute). Looking every bit like Sarah, the T-1000 puts on a pretty good poker face in this figure and passes perfectly. But, of course, it’s tougher to keep that poker face when somebody goes and puts a bullet through your shape-shifting head (included!). It’s a figure made as an Asian exclusive by Hot Toys, but they were awesome enough to let Sideshow import a bunch to North America and Terminator fans should be pleased. Here’s a look at what this great new item is boasting…

Terminator 2′s T-800 from Sideshow

Arnold Schwarzenegger created an iconic character in James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which itself was a great triumph. It was a breakthrough film in terms of special effects and technology and paved the way for so many of the CG-rich movies we have today. In honour of all it did and to commemorate the Terminator before he became the Governator, Sideshow has released a brilliant 12-inch figure that fans of the film are sure to love.
