New 3.75-Inch Scale (Over 2 feet all!) AT-AT

September 2, 2010

The new 3.75-inch scale IMPERIAL AT-AT joins the ever-growing collection of Star Wars vehicles and looks great doing it.

The AT-AT, or Imperial All Terrain Armored Transport, stands over TWO FEET TALL, in perfect scale with the 3.75-inch Star Wars figures to offer the massive, imposing presence that marked its appearances in the Star Wars Universe–most prominently in the Battle of Hoth.

This figure itself comes with a Speeder Bike figure, as well as an AT-AT Driver and can lower and retract a rappelling line from its underside. More than that, though, it boasts “light-up reciprocating chin guns, a light-up command section, battle and vehicle sounds and firing side-mounted blasters to bring the excitement of the intergalactic saga straight to your living room!” And what’s more, you can fit a whopping 19 figures in the AT-AT body, meaning that, on top of a toy, it might make for some pretty decent themed storage space!

Pre-Order: GOLDEN AGE GREEN LANTERN by DC Direct!

September 1, 2010

I recently mentioned the current increase in Green Lantern’s popularity thanks to the upcoming film and the starring role he boasts in the Blackest Night/Brightest Day DC Comics events. But as his future unfolds before us, why not take a look into Green Lantern’s past?

Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern, was the first to discover the power of the green flame.

Saved from death by a mysterious green metal lantern fashioned from a meteor, it flamed with power, fulfilling an ancient prophecy. Upon its instruction, Alan Scott formed a ring from the lantern’s metal, touching it to the lantern to charge it – and a new hero was born.

The figure stands about 12 inches tall and features 28 points of articulation, impressive on a DC Direct display item and perfect for any fan who wants to add some dynamic posing to a brilliant, classic character.

Pre-order: SPIDER-MAN “Back in Black”

August 24, 2010

From the wiki“Spider-Man: Back in Black” by J. Michael Straczynski and illustrated by Ron Garney (penciler), Bill Reinhold (inker), Matt Milla (colorist) and VC’s Cory Petit (letterer) was published in the comic book series The Amazing Spider-Man #539-543. The story takes place immediately after Marvel’s Civil War event and what happened to Spider-Man, Mary Jane Watson, and Aunt May in after the event. The story is about Spider-Man’s anger and determination to find Aunt May’s shooter. Hence, he wears the black suit, modeled after the alien symbiote, to emphasize his humorless aggression. He is often seen in action without his mask on, as well, showing his rage and thirst for vengeance.

Spider-Man: Back in Black is the latest item from the brilliant designers and sculptors at Sideshow in collaboration with Marvel. The black-suited Spider-Man is a fan favourite, representing a darker side of Peter Parker, and this 11-inch is sure to please many. Smoothly crafted to perfectly capture the sleek look of his costume, it makes a great addition to any display shelf. You can pre-order it now and expect it to ship later this month!

Hasbro’s 19-inch Galactus: The Dark VARIANT

August 19, 2010

Make enemies tremble at the might of your 19-inch Galactus figure! This gargantuan warrior not only looks fierce with his massive size and cosmic lights, he sounds impressive too — when you press the button, he says phrases like “Tremble at the might of the Power Cosmic!” and “I am the devourer of worlds!” It’s up to your Silver Surfer figure to try to stop this huge villain from “destroying the world”. Will he succeed? Set up the battle and find out!

You might remember our original post on Hasbro’s Giant-Size Galactus, the 19-inch Masterworks series figure joined by Silver Surfer and capturing the character in a scale that suits his sheer magnitude. Well, if you liked that one but weren’t entirely sure of the bright purple, then you might prefer this darker Galactus variant, which lends a sense of realism or perhaps modern comic grittiness with a more muted palette.

This pre-orderable figure will be shipping in October!

Kotobukiya’s RED HULK Statue: FALL OF THE HULKS

August 18, 2010

RED HULK from FALL OF THE HULKS is the latest statue from the Japanese statue wizards at Kotobukiya! It stands a full 13-inches tall and looks as imposing as you might expect from one of the best toy houses out there.

Here’s the word direct from the studio!

The Hulk has been a staple superhero of the Marvel Comics for years, battling foes across the universe in epic storylines. In 2008 the gamma-powered powerhouse met his match in a mysterious crimson-hued mirror image: the RED HULK. Massively powerful and frighteningly intelligent, the villain has all of the Hulk’s strengths and none of his weaknesses. With a mean streak matching his might, the Red Hulk (also known as “Rulk”) has beaten many of Marvel Comics’ superheroes and remains a threat to the entire Earth in the current Fall of the Hulk story. Based on the stunning art of Ed McGuinness, the Red Hulk Fine Art Statue continues Koto’s tradition of excellence.

The unstoppable Red Hulk rampages across a blasted volcanic landscape, preparing a lethal blow for his foes. The brute is absolutely covered in rippling muscles, with muscular definition rivaling (and even exceeding) that of Bruce Banner’s gamma-powered form. The detail on the tremendous villain’s intricate sculpt highlights every sinew and fiber of his being, while the fantastic paint work emphasizes his skin’s subtle crimson gradations. A dark smoky gray appears on the Red Hulk’s shredded pants, close-cropped hair, and finger and toe nails. Gleaming white teeth stand in stark contrast to the monster’s gaping maw, while his tiny beady eyes shine with a hellish yellow.

You can display the Red Hulk in two different ways according to your preferences with two included heads; one depicts the monster grinning in evil glee, while the other is a mask of rage crisscrossed by a yellow “X.”

DC Direct’s KINGDOM COME SUPERMAN

August 18, 2010

A new 13-inch Kingdom Come Superman figure has just been released by DC Direct and he looks incredible.

Part of DC Direct’s hugely-popular 1:6 scale collection, this figure is based on the work of artist Alex Ross, whose stunning, almost Rockwell-ian realism has become highly sought-after by Marvel, DC and a ton of other imprints and companies (non-comic-readers might even recognise his artwork from the opening credits of Spider-Man 2).

This figure in particular is based on the epic DC miniseries KINGDOM COME, wherein Superman is an older, wiser hero who stands alongside a world of heroes as their world is threatened by a force even the Man of Steel might not be able to defeat.

Packaged in a 4-colour window box, Superman features 28 points of articulation and makes an impressive, heroic addition to any collector’s toy shelf!

Marvel and Sideshow’s HULKBUSTER IRON MAN

August 14, 2010

Wearing the most powerful version of his suit ever made, Tony Stark stands ready to take on the Incredible Hulk in this stunning new comiquette from Marvel and Sideshow.

Built for the day when friends turn into foes, the Hulkbuster suit turns Iron Man into a force equal or greater in power to the mean, green fighting machine that is the transformed Bruce Banner. And this Sideshow statue captures all the power of Iron Man’s newest design in a 21-inch package that is as impressive on your toyshelf as it likely was when Stark rolled it out.

As with all of the Sideshow statue, the Hulkbuster Iron Man is handpainted, sculpted and molded to exacting standards and represents some of the most brilliant comic book figure work on sale today. Check out the whole collection of Marvel/Sideshow collaborations here.
