The original Harry Potter figures were definitely sub-par. Made by Mattel, they were about 5-6 inches tall, strangely proportioned, featured low detail and poor resemblances (my Snape figure looked like an old lady) and were, overall, very disappointing for action figure collectors looking for toys reflecting the impressive costumes and brilliant design of the characters. Fortunately, a couple years later, NECA picked up the license and started making figures that could live up to the epic scale of both the books and the films. The Harry Potter action figures from NECA stood taller, featured brilliant likenesses (Jason Isaacs’ Lucius Malfoy being a personal favouite) and could please fans and hard-core collectors alike.
And now, new figures have arrived on our shelves from the upcoming film. Joining the likes of Dumbledore and Voldemort, Severus Snape and Sirius Black, we’ve got new figures of Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, Mad-Eye Moody and Draco Malfoy. Take a look below!
The detail has to be seen in person to really be appreciated, but you can probably tell already that they more than live up to what’s come out of the NECA HP studios thus far. Their only real flaw–and this is very common for MOST Neca figures–is the lack of articulation. NECA definitely takes aesthetics over practical usage and doesn’t seem to figure that people might actually want to pose their toys. But when they look this good, it’s easy to forgive. So check ‘em out and be sure to catch the movie when it opens July 15th!

I got Harry and Draco. They’re great (well, if you make them look like they’re dueling each other. Draco is simple, Harry has very great detail).
And they’re not really toys but sculptures.
